Converting simple sentences into a compound-complex sentence: By combining multiple


simple sentences into compound-complex sentences, you can connect related ideas and provide a
more cohesive and structured presentation of information. This helps to create a flow in your
writing and establish logical relationships between the different components of your sentence.
Examples:

i. Simple Sentences: She studied hard for the exam. Even then, she felt nervous. The
reason was that the material was challenging. Besides that, the time was also limited.
Compound-Complex Sentence: Despite studying hard for the exam, she felt nervous
because the material was challenging, and the time was limited.
ii. Simple Sentences: The sun was shining brightly. Therefore, we decided to go for a
picnic. Nevertheless, it was hot outside. Hence, we had to take sunscreen and hats.
Compound-Complex Sentence: Since the sun was shining brightly, we decided to go
for a picnic, but we had to take sunscreen and hats because it was hot outside.
iii. Simple Sentences: He loves playing the guitar. Therefore, he practices it every day to
improve his skills. Moreover, he enjoys playing it along to his favorite songs.
Compound-Complex Sentence: Because he loves playing the guitar, he practices every
day to improve his skills, and he enjoys playing along to his favorite songs.
iv. Simple Sentences: She took a deep breath. Then, she stepped onto the stage. Even
though, she was feeling nervous about the upcoming performance.
Compound-Complex Sentence: After taking a deep breath, she stepped onto the stage,
even though she was feeling nervous about the upcoming performance.
v. Simple Sentences: The dog barked loudly. As a result, it alerted the family to the
presence of a stranger. It made them to lock the doors. Afterwards, they called the
police for assistance.
Compound-Complex Sentence: As the dog barked loudly, it alerted the family to the
presence of a stranger, so they locked the doors and called the police for assistance.

Converting simple sentences into a complex sentence: By combining multiple simple sentences
into complex sentences, you can establish cause-and-effect relationships, provide additional

context or conditions, and create a more nuanced and sophisticated expression of ideas. This allows
for a more varied and engaging writing style.

iii. Simple Sentences: He loves playing the guitar. Therefore, he practices every day to
improve his skills.
Complex Sentence: Due to his love for playing the guitar, he practices every day to
improve his skills
iv. Simple Sentences: She took a deep breath. Then, she stepped onto the stage.
Complex Sentence: After taking a deep breath, she stepped onto the stage.
v. Simple Sentences: The dog barked loudly. It alerted the family to the presence of a

Complex Sentence: When the dog barked loudly, it alerted the family to the presence

Converting simple sentences into a compound sentence: By combining two or three simple
sentences into one compound sentence, you can show the relationship between the ideas expressed
in those sentences. The compound structure allows for a smoother flow and a more concise
presentation of related actions or thoughts.

i. Simple Sentences: She loves to read books. Besides, she also enjoys watching movies.
Compound Sentence: She loves to read books, and she enjoys watching movies.
ii. Simple Sentences: He went to the store. There he bought some groceries.
Compound Sentence: He went to the store, and he bought some groceries there.
iii. Simple Sentences: The rain started pouring heavily. Therefore, we decided to stay
indoors.
Compound Sentence: The rain started pouring heavily, so we decided to stay indoors.

iv. Simple Sentences: I woke up early. However, I had breakfast first. Then, I went for a
jog.
Compound Sentence: I woke up early, but I had breakfast before going for a jog.
v. Simple Sentences: She prepared a delicious dinner. Not only that, she also set the table
with great care. In fact, she even lit candles for a cozy ambiance.
Compound Sentence: Not only she prepared a delicious dinner, but also she set the
table carefully and even lit candles for a cozy ambiance.
