ROBONAM 1.0 RULE BOOK 2024


Namal University Mianwali is organizing a NAMAL Expo Tech 2024 on 13th May 2024. A robotic
competition ROBONAM 1.0 is also one of the main channels in the event. This competition will
provide a productive platform for the students to showcase their skills and innovations through
robotic competitions. The students also learn to work in teams, developing coordination and
collaboration skills.

Rules and Regulation


This section provides the rules regarding arena, robot size, and robot weight for all categories of
robotic competition.

Category 1: Sumo Wars


1.1 Description:
Two remote-controlled / self-controller robots are placed in a ring. There will be three rounds,
the first robot to win two rounds will win the match. Different registered teams of sumo war
category will compete against each other through out the contest. The robots try to avoid being
pushed out by opponent’s team robot or try to avoid falling out of ring.

1.2 The Ring:


• The ring for sumo war will be circular in shape with 48-inch (4 ft) Diameter circle.
• The ring will be painted black with white circle at the edge.
1.3 Size and Weight:
• The robot must fit within 30 x 30 x 30 cm cube during the contest.
• Robot weight excluding decoration cannot be more than 6kg (including batteries).

1.4 Further guidelines:


• Parts that can break / damage / the ring and opponent robot are not allowed.
• Robot must not emit smoke, fire, any liquid, or other substance.
• Team will be disqualified if robot possess weight and size more than 10% of allowed limit.

Category 2: Line Following Robot


2.1 Description
Each participating team robot will move from a starting point to ending point as shown in figure
below.

The first robot to reach end point first will be declared as winner of the match.
2.2 The Arena:
• The arena is composed of a black track drawn on white background with lamination sheet
of dimension 8 x 4 feet.
2.3 Robot Size and Weight:
• The robot must fit with in 12 inches x 12 inches square at time of measurement.
• Height of robot must not exceed 20 cm.
• There is no limitation on the weight of robot.
2.4 Scoring System
• Each match will be of 3 minutes (maximum).
• Timing will start once start signal is given.
• Points (5 points) will be deducted in case of overweight and oversize robot.
• The robot that will take least time to reach ending point will be the winner of match.
• If a robot fails to reach end point, the marks will be given according to following table:

2.5 Guidelines
• If the robot deviates from the path for any reason, it will be allowed 3 retries. If the
robot strays and is behind 50% of the path, it will return to the starting point. If the
robot has covered more than 50% of the path before straying, a penalty of 10% marks
will be deducted.
• In the event that both teams have scored the same points but are unable to complete the
task within the allocated time slot, judges will determine which robot is closer to the
finish point.

Category 3: Balloon Bursting Robot


3.1 Description
Each robot will navigate the arena, locate and burst balloons. There are a total of twenty balloons.
The robot that bursts the highest number of balloons within a 2-minute timeframe will be declared
the winner.
3.2 Arena
The arena is square shared with dimensions 8 x 4 ft. Inner area will be of black color with white
boundary.
3.3 Guidelines
• Robot weight and size for this category are similar to the Category 1.
• Robot must not emit smoke, fire, any liquid, or other substance.
• Robot must not damage the arena.
