INFORMATION SHEET 3.1-3
Application software
Learning Objectives:
After reading this INFORMATION SHEET, YOU MUST be able to:
1. Identify the application software.
2. Explain the importance of installing application software.
Introduction:
When we talk about application software also known as applications,
are programs designed to perform specific tasks or functions for users.
These software programs are created to help users accomplish various tasks
on their devices, such as computers, smartphones, tablets, or other
electronic devices. In installing application software, we must consider also
technical issues that you will encounter, always check the system
requirements, disabling antivirus temporarily, or contacting customer
support assistance. Here are some common examples of application
software:

Figure 1.1
A word processing software is a computer program that can capture, display
and manipulate data arranged in rows and columns. It allows users to write
and modify text, display it on a screen, save it electronically, and print it
out.
Word processing software is one of the most common technology tools in the
world, allowing users to create resumes and cover letters, business
correspondence, blog posts, novels, and more.
Traditionally, word processors were computer applications downloaded to a
specific number of computers. But as cloud computing has become more
common, so have browser-based word processors. These typically lack the
more advanced features of a traditional program; however, they offer more
flexibility and the ability to collaborate in real time.

Stress Testing Procedure
Learning Objectives
Introduction
Stress testing procedure is a method used to evaluate the stability and
reliability of a system or software application under extreme conditions.
Here is a general procedure for conducting stress testing:
1. Define the Objectives
-Clearly outline the goals and objectives of the stress testing, including
the specific scenarios and conditions you want to test.
2. Identify Critical Scenarios
-Determine the critical scenarios that could potentially cause the system
to fail or perform poorly under stress. This could include high user loads,
peak traffic times, or resource-intensive operations.
3. Create Test Cases
-Develop test cases that simulate the identified stress scenarios. These
test cases should be designed to push the system to its limit and beyond
to observe how it behaves under stress.
4. Configure Test Environment
-Set-up a test environment that closely resembles the production
environment in terms of hardware, software, and network
configurations. This will ensure that the stress test results are relevant
and accurate.
5. Execute Stress Test

-Run the test according to the defined scenarios and test cases. Monitor
the system performance, response times, resource utilization, and any
errors or failures that occur during the test.
6. Analyze Results
-Analyze the results of the stress tests to identify any bottlenecks,
performance issues, or areas of weakness in the system. This analysis
will help you understand how the system behaves under stress and
where improvements may be needed.
7. Implement Improvements
-Based on the findings from the stress testing, make necessary
improvements to the system to enhance its performance, scalability, and
reliability under stress conditions.
By following this stress testing procedure, you can effectively assess the
resilience of the system or software application and ensure that it can stand
high levels of stress without compromising its functionality.

Secueles Revision # 00
1. Apache JMeter is an Apache project that can be used as a load testing
tool for analyzing and measuring the performance of a variety of services,
with a focus on web applications.
2. Stress tester a type of software testing that verifies stability & reliability of
software application. The goal of Stress testing is measuring software on its
robustness and error handling capabilities under extremely heavy load
conditions and ensuring that software doesn’t crash under crunch
situations. It even tests beyond normal operating points and evaluates how
software works under extreme conditions.
3. Heavy Load is a stress tool developed by JAM Software that features a
handy graphical user interface (GUI) to visualize the tests being run. The
software allows you to test the entire processor or just a specific number of
cores. One useful feature of HeavyLoad is that you can install the tool on a
USB drive and use it on multiple computers. This avoids having to install
HeavyLoad on every single computer. It’s seful for IT professionals who need
to ensure numerous servers are able to handle heavy processor loads.
HeavyLoad is also able to stress other components such as GPU, RAM, or
storage.
4. Prime95 is one of the most well-known free CPU stress tests out there. It
was developed as part of the Great Internet Mersenne Prime Search
(GIMPS), in which the processor is used to find large prime numbers.
Though Prime95 is not originally made to stress test the CPU, the strain in
using the processor’s floating point and integer capabilities make it an
excellent way to see what your CPU is capable of.
5. AIDA64 is an all-in-one diagnostic tool that can be used to look at details
of your particular system. In the System Stability Test, you can choose
which component (CPU, memory, local disks, GPU, etc.) you want to stress.
While the test is running, there’s a Sensor tab that lets you view the
temperature of each CPU core and fan speeds. This can be invaluable to see
if your system is being properly cooled and stressed.
6. Cinebench R23 is another well-known free benchmark utility that you
may have seen in various reviews. It was created by Maxon, the developer
behind 3D modeling application Cinema 4D. Cinebench simulates common
tasks within Cinema 4D to measure system performance. Specifically, the
primary test renders a photorealistic 3D scene and uses algorithms to stress
all CPU cores. The render is about 2,000 objects comprised of over 300,000
polygons.
7. CPU-Z gathers detailed information on your system, including CPU
processor name, cache levels, and even what process node it was
manufactured on. You can also get real-time measurements of each core’s

General Interpretation:
The ratings provided by ten (10) raters (ranging from 8.4 to 10)
consistently reflect a high level of satisfaction with the subject being
evaluated. Rater 1 has a score of 8.4 which mean very good. Raters 2, 7 and
10 all assigned a score of 10, which indicates that they found the subject’s
performance or quantities to be exceptionally strong or outstanding. Raters
3, 4, 8 and 9, which scores of 9.2 and 9.6, also contributed to this positive
evaluation, demonstrating a consistently positive perception across the
board. The overall average rating of 9.44 further supports the notion that
the subject’s performance was not only commendable but also reached a
level that is considered “outstanding”. This collective assessment suggests a
strong consensus among the raters about the satisfaction of the training
that they have undergone.
