5- Course Content:
5.1. Course Description (As indicated in program Bylaw):
Fundamentals of optical fiber communication systems. Propagation in optical fibers. Attenuation and
dispersion mechanisms in optical fibers. Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) and DWDM. Optical
sources: LED and ILD. Optical detectors: PIN and APD. Design of optical fiber communication links.
Advanced topics. Experimental work to support the above mentioned topic is performed. Basic concepts of
mobile communications, Cell site planning, Traffic engineering, RF propagation characteristics, Fading and
Path loss phenomena, Noise in cellular systems, Frequency planning, Frequency reuse, Types of interference.
Multiple access techniques, Frequency division multiple access, Time division multiple access and code
division multiple access. Generations of Mobile systems. GSM system ,GSM architecture, TDMA frame
structure, Types of bursts, Mapping of logical channels on physical channels, Bit interleaving, Modulation,
Frequency hopping, Power control, Carrier and burst synchronization, CDMA spread spectrum systems,
