Liên Từ
1. Coordinating conjunctions (liên từ kết hợp):
a. Nhóm AND: chỉ sự thêm vào
Bao gồm các từ and, both … and, not only … but also, as well as, in addition, besides,
moreover, furthermore.
Ex: She is a wonderful singer as well as a talented dancer.
b. Nhóm BUT: chỉ sự trái ngược, mâu thuẫn
Gồm các liên từ và cụm từ: but, yet, however, nevertheless, on the other hand.
Ex: He’s smart but lazy.
I don’t want to be late for the class. On the other hand, I don’t want to get up too early.
c. Nhóm OR: chỉ sự lựa chọn hoặc đoán chừng
Bao gồm những từ or, or else, nor, either .. or, neither … nor, otherwise.
Ex: Hurry up or else you’ll be late.
d. Nhóm SO: chỉ kết quả
Gồm các từ sau: so, therefore, consequently, as a result
Ex: There weren’t enough beds, so we had to sleep on the floor.
2. Subordinating conjuntions (liên từ phụ thuộc):
a. Nhóm WHEN: chỉ mối quan hệ về thời gian
Bao gồm các từ như: when, whenever, while, as, after, before, as soon as, till/until, by the
time, since
Ex: I’ll call you as soon as I come home.
b. Nhóm BECAUSE: chỉ nguyên nhân hoặc lý do
Gồm có những từ như: because, as, since, for, now/ seeing (that)
Ex: Now / Seeing (that) it’s your money, I think you can buy anything you want.
c. Nhóm IF: chỉ điều kiện
Gồm các liên từ: if, unless, in case, provided (that), supposing (that), as long as, otherwise
Ex: You can watch TV provided that you finish your homework.
d. Nhóm THOUGH: chỉ sự tương phản
Bao gồm các từ: although, though, even though, even if, while, whereas
Ex: I like dog, while / whereas she likes cat.
Even though I don’t agree with him, I think he’s honest.
e. Nhóm IN ORDER: chỉ mục đích
Gồm các liên từ như: in order that, so that, for fear that
Ex: You should send the letter express, so that / in order that he can get it before Monday.
We get up early for fear that we may be late for the train.
f. Nhóm SO … THAT: chỉ kết quả
- So + adj / adv + that
Ex: Fiona was so sad that she couldn’t speak anything.
- Such (a/an) + adj noun + that
Ex: It is such an amazing film that I’ve seen it twice.
g. Nhóm THAT: đưa ra 1 tuyên bố, ý kiến, sự kiện hoặc lý do
Ex: I understand that you are angry.
