Ans:* Nutrients are the chemical compounds in food that are used by the body to function
properly and maintain health.
*The five nutrients are carbohydrates,fats,proteins, vitamins and minerals.

Ans: Carbohydrates and fats give us energy.
3.How are proteins useful to our body?
Ans:Proteins are useful to our body because they help us to grow and repair the damaged parts
of our body.
4.What happens to the food in the small intestine?
Ans:* In the small intestine,food is mixed with more digestive juices and is softened down.
*Other juices are produced by the liver and pancreas.
* The digestive food is absorbed through the walls of the small intestine.
5.Name different methods of cooking food.Give one example for each methods.
Ans:The different cooking methods are

● Frying- samosa
● Baking- cake

● Roasting-meat
6.Why is it important to preserve food?List the different methods of food preservation.
Ans:*Food gets spoilt due to the action of bacteria,moisture etc . It is important to store food
properly so that it can be used for long time.
*Different methods of food preservation are refrigeration,salting,drying,storing.

Ans: The following ways we can protect our teeth from tooth decay
*We should not eat too many sweets.
* We should always wash our mouth after eating.
* We should massage the gums with a finger.
* We should visit a dentist regularly for check-ups .
* We should eat food rich in calcium such as milk and milk products to keep our teeth healthy.
6.What are microbes? Name the different kinds of microbes.
Ans:Microbes are tiny living organisms that can only be seen under a microscope.The four
different kinds of microbes are bacteria, viruses,fungi and protozoa.
7.How are microbes useful to us?
Ans:*Bacteria change milk to cheese or curd.
*A fungus called yeast helps to make breads and cakes fluffy.

3. Water can exist in all three states.Explain.
Ans:* Water is the liquid state .When water freezes,it become ice.
*Ice is the solid state of water.When water is boiled,it changes into water vapour.
* Water vapour is the gaseous form of water.Thus water can exist in all three states.
4.What is a solution?
Ans:The liquid we get when a solute dissolves in a solvent is called a solution.
5.What is evaporation?
Ans:The process in which a liquid changes to gas on heating is called evaporation.
