1.0 SCOPE OF WORK

This Method Statement defines the procedures to be followed in installation of Low Voltage Armored,
Unarmored Cables and Wires requirement for MEP services of this project. Works shall be carried out in
compliance with the ROSHN Specifications and approved shop drawings.

 Work shall be carried out as per the approved drawings /applicable ROSHN Specifications, and
ROSHN Engineer Shall be informed well in advance for the activity.
 All the materials and equipment shall be made available on site starting the activity. Where
applicable approval of material shall be taken prior to start of work.
 Excavation shall be done keeping in mind least Disturbance to the Routine traffic and
surrounding.
 Equipment excavator (backhoe) shall be used if existing underground services do not exist. Or if
the damage to any service or property is not expected.
 Trench shall be made for proper working.
 Provide Tag /Identification to coiled cable so that personnel shall not step on it and no materials
shall be stocked on top of it. Cable tag with proper cable details will be provided at both cable
ends for cable identification. Cables shall be protected from damage at all times.

6.1 Setting up The Pull


 Prior to shifting cable drum to site, check cable data against drawings and schedules.
 Transport the cable to site by a truck and unload on designated lifting area on the ground.
 Set up cable stand correctly for even feeding of cable. Each stand must be in line with each
other. Avoid the angle in which the cable will be feed from the reel to the tray.
 Jack the cable drum enough to give clearance from the floor.
 Check the cable containment is ready and route is clear of any obstruction.
 Remove steel binding straps and retaining battens and timbers. Any expose projecting nails
must be removed.
 Before unreeling cable, double check again cable size, rating and type of cable inside reel.
Confirm the data obtained is as per approved the cable schedule/drawings.
 Unreel at least 6 meters of cable from the drum and remove the end seal cover.
 Set up cable stand correctly for even feeding of cable. Each stand must be in line with each
other. Avoid the angle in which the cable will be feed from the reel to the tray.
 Removed at least 50mm of jacket (outer) and separate each cable core/phase.

6.2 Preparation of Trench and Laid the LV Cables


 After setting up is completed, started preparing the area where cables are to be laid by grading,
leveling and compacting the graded plateau at the required level.
 Start the excavation of LV Cable trench at required depth from the ground surface. The
contractor shall excavate the trench to the depth accordance with the meeting acquirements in
the approved drawings and or ROSHN specifications.
 Depth of Trench is 650mm as direct buried cable as mention in Details Drawing Excavated spoil
shall be remove from the route of trench. There are at least no loose stones or other debris on
either side of the trench.
 Cable bedding (sweep sand) within the trenches shall be formed as per drawing depth sand
layer.
 Pull cable into position by hand, where possible using an adequate number of operative roller
guides suitably positioned along cable length.

 Do not allow cable to twist or to rotate about its longitudinal axis. All cables shall be run in
continuous length from point of origin to destination.
 Single core cables when laid in trefoil formation shall be brace by non-magnetic clamps.
 Underground cables horizontal separation (cable spacing) shall be as per drawing.
 Cables shall be laid in parallel with no twists or crossovers.
 Under no circumstances shall any cable be subjected to bending radius less than minimum
recommended by manufacture.
 Damaged cable shall be remove.
 During cable pulling in the duct use any lubricant should have no any deleterious effects on the
cables.
 Megger test Core to core, 1kv > 20M ohms. Record make, model, S/N, settings and readings.
 Identify the cable at both ends for proper identification of cable and marker sign shall be as the
feeder designation in the cable schedule.
 Cables are not to be immediately terminated, the cables shall be labeled and end sealed with
heat shrink seals.
 Before sanding and backfilling all laid cables, scroll shall be inspected and get approved by
ROSHN. (HPR).

Direct Buried Trefoil two circuit each.

 After the cables have been laid covered sweep sand which shall be well tamped around cables.
Refer to approved Drawings for Direct buried details.
 Earthing Cable will be placed along with the cable.
 Cable tiles and Warning tape shall be laid as per approved Drawings. After Warning tapes,
backfill again up to finished ground level.

6.3 INSTALLATION OF CABLES IN DUCT


 All cables shall be routed as required by the Drawings. If at any time during the progress of the work
the Contractor finds raceways which appear inadequate to accommodate the assigned cable, he
shall notify the ROSHN at once and shall discontinue any further work on the questionable raceway
until advised by the ROSHN on how to proceed.
 Immediately prior to the placement of each cable or cable group, the raceway route shall be
inspected and ascertained to be complete in installation and free of all materials detrimental to the
cables or their placement.

 All cables assigned to a particular duct or conduit shall be grouped and pulled in simultaneously,
using cable grips or pulling eyes and acceptable lubricants.
 All cables shall be carefully checked, both, with regards to size and length, before being pulled into
conduits or ducts. Cables pulled into the wrong conduit or duct or cut too short to rack, train, and
splice as specified herein, shall be removed and replaced. Cable removed from one conduit or duct
shall not be pulled into another conduit or duct.

6.4 Manual and Mechanical Cable Pulling:

1. Finishing and pulling shall be done with flexible round metal tape, CO2 propelled polyethylene
cord, nylon rope or manila rope.
2. Pull cable into position by hand, where possible using an adequate number of operative roller
guides suitable positions along cable length.
3. All worker assigned at the cable drum location shall manually roll the drum and unreel cable.
4. During the Entire pull, only the person in charge, i.e. Superintendent/ Field Electrical Engineer
should give command to workers pulling the cable in order to synchronize with the workers
releasing cables at drum end.
5. For vertical pull, assigned guider shall guide the cable while approaching succeeding floor to
prevent jamming.
6. For Horizontal pull, assigned guider shall check cable condition at every cable tray corner or
offset locations.
7. After the cable has reached the other, measure the exact length required for termination to the
equipment/panel board. Provide enough allowance (slacks) for every termination point before
cutting at drum end.
8. All cables shall be run in continuous length from point of origin to destination.
9. Afterwards, cut the cable from the drum and separate each phase of the cable in preparation.
Conduct insulation test on the multi-conductor Cable and Record result Core to core and core to
ground (Tray or raceway )1kv>20mohms. Record megger make, S/N, Settings and readings.
10. Apply insulation tape over heat shrink seal on both cut ends of cable to seal it.
11. Identify cable at both ends for proper identification of cable. Identification shall be same as
feeder designation in the cable schedule.
12. Cable Drum at each end until the termination to equipment /panel board has started.
13. For cable pulling Use lubricant to easily pull the cable in conduits reduce the friction
encountered by the cable.
14. Install ropes in conduits, it eases the working procedure of cable pulling
15. Cable roller will be used during cable pulling, the cable roller for moving cables without standing
near the railing and reduces the strain in pulling cables. Thus, the whole process becomes
easier and safer to carry out.
16. Woven wire cable grips shall be used to pull all multi-conductor cables, as well as single
conductor cable 70 mm2 (2/0 AWG) and larger, where pulling eyes are not available.
17. Pulling loops shall be used to pull single conductor cable smaller than 70 mm2 (2/0 AWG).
When pulling loops are used, the entire loop shall be cut off and discarded when the pull is

completed. As soon as the cable is pulled into place, the pulling eyes, cable grips, or pulling
loops shall be removed and any cable that was sealed shall be resealed.
18. A reliable non-freezing type of swivel, or swivel connection, shall be inserted between the pulling
eye, grip, or loop to prevent cable twisting under strain.
6.5 Layout for overall Cable for Street Lighting:
 Cable will be pull in the race ways whether ducts, direct burial or direct burial conduit as per
specified in IFC Details drawings and ROSHN Specs.

6.6 Inspection

 Inspection shall be performed at the field before installation of the cable, the outside of each cable
reel shall be carefully inspected and protruding nails, fastenings, or other objects which might
damage the cable shall be removed. A thorough visual inspection for flaws, breaks or abrasions in
the cable sheath shall be made as the cable leaves the reel, and the pulling speed shall be slow
enough to permit this inspection. Damage to the sheath or finish of the cable shall be sufficient
cause for rejecting the cable. Cable damaged in any way during installation shall be replaced.

7.0 HEALTH & SAFETY PROCEDURE

7.1 General

a) Prior to commencement of any activities, the workforce will receive an induction talk by the project
safety manager. This induction talk will include both activities safety issues, as well as general safety
requirements.
b) Where possible hazards may arise during installation activities, the necessary safe measure will be
taken to prevent accident or injury at all times. This may include barriers, warning tapes/net, signage,
flagman and proper lighting personnel shall be warned against breathing of vapors and contact with
skin and eye.
c) Keep flammable product away from spark or flame-spark producing equipment shall not be used
during application and vapor have dissipated – Housekeeping for work area shall be maintained in neat
and workable condition- heat stress training will be provided.
d) Provision of adequate cool drinking water, shade and salt water tablets will be in place.

7.2 Protective and Safety


 Ensure that all traffic management is setup correctly to comply with local regulations.(not required)
 Ensure that all excavations are constructed safety and barricaded (during direct buried cable
installation).
 Storage of all machinery, material and equipment should be away from any environmentally
sensitive area.
 All plant, materials and equipment should be protected from vandalism.

7.3 Emergency Procedures

 All members in the works area shall be trained about emergency procedure.
 In case of emergency situation (e.g. accident ) the safety officers shall be immediately notify the
ROSHN industrial security department:

8.0 ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES

8.1 Environmental Impact Assessment


 The contractor shall undertake all works in accordance with appropriate environmental
requirement.
 All work shall be performed in professional manner, in conformance with the applicable codes and
standards and the best electrical engineering practice. Work shall be performed by skilled workers
equipped to produce satisfactory results in a safe and substantial manner so as to avoid undue
stresses.
 The contractor shall take all measure necessary to ensure that all such installation is protected
from damage or displacement during the course of the work.
 The contractor shall obtain a gain access approval and be responsible for clearing any construction
spillage, waste and debris from local regulator.

9.0 QUALITY CONTROL


 Ensure all documents are already approved by the ROSHN, and the material delivery should match
the approved.
 Inspect the electrical/civil work and to ensure that the work is in accordance with the electrical
design IFC Drawing.
 All testing equipment should have valid calibration certificates and should be labeled to the
equipment.
 The QC Engineer shall carry out random or planned visit to site and then work area assigned to
them by QC Coordinator.
 A system of check lists, test procedures and other appropriate document shall be used for
recording.

 We shall be call ROSHN representative for the inspection of before laying cable.
 All records, reports shall arrange and maintained to ensure trace ability between materials,
fabrication and test records.
