A. Before the Lesson

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity / Responses

Good morning, class. Good morning, Sir / Ma’am

Who is the prayer leader today? Please come

in front and lead the prayer. (One student will lead the prayer)

Before you sit down, kindly arrange your

chairs properly and pick up the pieces of
trash around you. (The students will arrange their chairs and pick
up the pieces of trash)
Class Secretary, who is absent today?
(The secretary will tell the teacher who are the
absentees)
How was your weekend class? I hope you
all had a wonderful weekend, just as I did. It
was filled with joy and relaxation. Now, let's
start our class with enthusiasm and energy.
I'm excited to hear about your weekends too,
so feel free to share your experiences with
the rest of the class! (The students share their weekend experience)

Before we begin our lesson, let's review

some topics from your previous
Mathematics 8 class about the Operations of
Algebraic Expressions. We will have a first
activity.

Are you excited for your first activity? Yes, Sir.

Our first activity is a playful game I named

it “Guess Me”. However, before we begin,
let's go over the rules to ensure a smooth
game play experience. I will present a given
expressions and you will have to determine
the corresponding operations. You will raise
your hand if you want to answer. Each
correct answer will earn 1 point each. Any
questions or clarifications to our rules. None, Sir.

Let’s begin to the first problem.

and their operations. Have you any idea
what is our lesson for today?

Correct.

B. Activity Proper (Lesson Proper)

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity / Responses
Based on what you've mentioned earlier,
our lesson for today is about the Operations
on Functions. We'll explore how to
perform different operations with
functions, and specifically, we'll start with
addition.

1. Their sum, denoted by 𝑓 + 𝑔, is the

For the definition, let f and g be functions.

(𝑓 + 𝑔)(𝑥) = 𝑓(𝑥) + 𝑔(𝑥).

function denoted by

2. Their difference, denoted by 𝑓 − 𝑔, is

Teaching Internship
(EDU ELEC 03)

(𝑓 − 𝑔)(𝑥) = 𝑓(𝑥) − 𝑔(𝑥).

the function denoted by

3. Their product, denoted by 𝑓 • 𝑔, is the

(𝑓 • 𝑔)(𝑥) = 𝑓(𝑥) • 𝑔(𝑥).

function denoted by

4. Their quotient, denoted by 𝑓/𝑔, is the

function denoted by

(𝑓/𝑔)(𝑥) = 𝑓(𝑥)/𝑔(𝑥), excluding the

values of x where 𝑔(𝑥) = 0.

To make it even easier to grasp, let's go

through an example together. By the end
of this, you'll have a clear understanding.
Let's get started for the example.

Given the functions:

f ( x )=x +3
p ( x )=2 x −7
v ( x )=x 2 +5 x+ 4
2
g ( x )=x + 2 x−8
x+ 7
h( x)=

Determine the functions:

1. ( v+ g )( x )
2. ( v+ g )( 3 )
3. (h+ t)(x)
4. ( p+ f ) ( x )
5. ( f +g ) ( x )
6. ( p+h )( x )
7. ( p+h )( 4 )

Let’s solve problem # 1.

C. After the Lesson (generalization)

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity / Responses

What have you learned in our lesson about
Additions on function? (Student answer will vary).

Very good, how can we relate Addition on

functions in real life situation?
Let say for example a pocket money
budget.
Imagine you receive a weekly allowance
from your parents for your expenses. Let's
say you get 500.00 pesos for snacks and
entertainment. how can you represent this
amount in function? f ( x )=500.00 , Sir

Correct, Additionally, you receive 150.00

pesos for school supplies. If you represent
500.00 pesos as F(x)=500, how can you
represent 150.00 pesos in function? g ( x )=150.00 , Sir

Very good, the question is how can you

determine how much pocket money budget
you have per week based on what we have
discussed earlier? (Student answer will vary)

Another example, Study Time

Teaching Internship
(EDU ELEC 03)

Management:
Suppose you have two subjects to study for
your exams: Math and Science. The time it
takes to study Math is 45 minutes per day,
and the time for science is 30 minutes per
day, to find out how much total study time
you need each day for both subjects, you
add the time of Math and Science. This will
give you the total study time needed each
day as a student for both subjects combined.
Now, how about you how can you relate
addition on function in real life situation? (Student answer will vary).

Correct, any questions or clarifications

class? None, Sir.

j ( x )=
x+ 3 ( f +g ) (3 )=( 3+5 )+((3)2−1)
Find: ( f +g ) (3 )=( 8 )+(9−1)
a. (f + g) ( x ) ( f +g ) (3 )=8+ 8
( f +g ) (3 )=16
b. (f + g) ( 3 )
c. ( h+i ) ( x )
c. (h+i) ( x ) ( h+i ) ( x )=h ( x ) +i(x)
d. (f + j) ( x ) ( h+i ) ( x )=(3 x + 4)+(x−3)
( h+i ) ( x )=3 x+ 4+ x−3
( h+i ) ( x )=4 x+1

d. (f + j) ( x )

front).

a. Assignment

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity / Responses

For enrichment: Simplify the following and

write your answer in one whole sheet of pad
paper.

A. Let 𝑝(𝑥) = 2 x 2 + 5𝑥 − 3, 𝑚(𝑥) = 2𝑥 −
