39 The domestic electric circuit consist of red insulated cover called as 4
live wire, wire with black insulation called as neutral wire and the wire
with green insulation is called as Earth wire. We know that fuse is
connected in series with the circuit to prevent the damaging of
electrical appliances and circuit from overloading. The Earth wire
which is green in colour is connected to a metal plate deep in the earth
near the house. This type of safety measure is used in appliances like
electric press, toaster, table fan, refrigerator etc. The Earth wire is gives
low resistance conducting path for the electric current. In this way it
protects us from severe electric shock.

Suspend it horizontally from a stand using two connecting cables.
Place a powerful horseshoe magnet between the two poles with the
magnetic field pointing upwards.
Place the north pole of the magnet vertically below the aluminium rod
and the south pole vertically above it for this.
Connect the aluminium rod to a battery, a key, and a rheostat in series.

It is observed that the rod is displaced towards the left.
Reverse the direction of the stream flowing through the rod to see
which way it is displaced. It's moving right now.

Fleming Left-hand rule:

When an electric current flows through a straight wire and an external
magnetic field is put across it, the wire experiences a force that is
perpendicular to both the field and the direction of the current flow,
according to Fleming's left-hand rule.
The direction of the force, magnetic field, and current may all be
determined using this rule.
The thumb, first finger, and second finger of the left hand can all be
held perpendicular to each other. The direction of motion arising from
the force on the conductor is represented by the thumb. The first finger
represents the magnetic field's direction. The current's direction is
represented by the second finger.
OR
All magnetic effects are associated with electric current.
A moving charge is able to create a magnetic field.
The magnetic field produced by a bar magnet can be explained as the
resultant field produced by the tiny current loops formed by the
electrons revolving around the nucleus of each atom.
Hence, any current-carrying wire will produce a magnetic field.
The change in the magnetic flux of this magnetic field again induced a
current on the conductor.
Electromagnetic induction is defined as a phenomenon of the
generation of an electrical current by varying the magnetic field in a
closed circuit.
The electric current produced by this phenomenon is termed an induced
current and therefore the voltage set within the circuit because of the
induced current is termed induced electromotive force (emf).

Take two different coils of copper wire having a huge number of turns
(say 50 and 100 turns respectively). Insert them over a non-conducting
cylindrical roll, as shown within the figure. (You may use a thick paper
roll for this purpose.)
Connect the coil1, having a bigger number of turns, in series with a
battery and a plug key. Also, connect the second coil 2 with a
galvanometer as shown.
Plugin the key. Observe the galvanometer to test if there's a deflection
in its needle. It is observed that the needle of the galvanometer instantly
jumps to one side and just as quickly returns to zero, indicating a
momentary current in coil 2.
Disconnect coil 1 from the battery.
It is observed that the needle momentarily moves but to the opposite
side. It implies that now the current flows in the opposite direction in
coil 2.

36 Principle of AC Generator: 5
It is based on the principle of electromagnetic induction.
It can be used to convert mechanical energy to electrical energy.
Working:
Initially, at t=0 the armature ABCD is vertical with arm AB up and CD
down. During the motion of armature between t=0 and t=T/2, the arm
AB moves down and CD moves up.
Using Fleming's Right-hand rule, the current in the armature will flow
in the direction of DCBA.

During the motion of armature between t=T/2 to t=T, the arm CD

moves up and AB moves down. During this interval, the current will
flow in the direction of ABCD.
Whenever the armature is vertical, its arms AB and CD momentarily
move parallel to the field. So the rate of change of magnetic flux
becomes zero which means that the induced e.m.f. corresponding to the
vertical positions of the armature is zero. Thus at t = 0, T/2, and T
induced e.m.f. produced is zero.
When the armature is horizontal, the arms AB and CD move normally
in the direction of the magnetic field. At t=T/4 and t=3T/4 the induced
e.m.f. produced is maximum.
For converting an AC generator to a DC generator; replace split rings
with slip rings for a DC generator. The split ring commutator makes the
current change direction every alternate half rotation.
Using this the direction of the current changes every alternate half
rotation, it essentially converts the current direction in every half-cycle
to positive.

sodium ethanoate & hydrogen gas is evolved which burns with a pop
sound . Hence, compound ‘R’ is sodium ethanoate.
2CH3COOH + 2Na → 2CH3COONa + H2 1
Ethanoic acid on treatment with methanol in the presence of an acid forms
an ester which is a sweet-smelling compound. 1
H+
CH3COOH + CH3OH CH3COOCH3 + H2O
Hence alcohol ‘A’ is methanol & compound ‘S’ is methyl ethanoate.
On addition of NaOH to ethanoic acid , it gives Sodium ethanoate( R ) & 1
water
CH3COOH + NaOH → CH3COONa + H2O
On addition of NaOH to methyl ethanoate ( S) , it gives Sodium ethanoate 1
( R) & H2O
CH3COOCH3 + NaOH → CH3COONa + H2O

a) i)When CO2 is passed through calcium hydroxide solution (taken in

test tube B), i.e., lime water, it turns milky due to the formation of 1
insoluble calcium carbonate (CaCO3).
ii) In test tube A, ethanoic acid reacts with sodium carbonate to give 1
sodium acetate, water, carbon dioxide.
CH3COOH + Na2CO3 ⟶ CH3COONa + H2O + CO2
In test tube B, when carbon dioxide is passed through lime water, it
turns milky. 1
Ca(OH)2 + CO2 ⟶ CaCO3 + H2O
iii) If ethanol taken instead of ethanoic acid, no change will because
ethanol is a very weak acid and hence cannot decompose Na2CO3 to
give CO2 gas. 1
CH3CH2OH + N2CO3 → No reaction
iv) When quick lime (CaO) is added to water in a test tube. Some of
it will dissolve to from calcium hydroxide (lime water) while
majority of it remains suspended. Filter the solution. The clear
solution thus obtained is called lime water. 1

39 (a)protect the circuit and electric appliances. 1
b) In our country the potential difference between live wire and neutral wire is 1
220 V.
c) ) Difference features between Overloading and Short-circuiting in Domestic
circuits
Overloading: 2
If too many electrical appliances of high power rating are switched on at the
same time, they draw an extremely large current from the circuit causing
overloading.
Due to an extremely large current flowing through the circuit, the copper wire
of the household wiring gets heated to a very high temperature and a fire may
start.
Short-circuiting:
The touching of naked live wire and neutral wire directly causes short
circuiting.
In this case, the resistance of the circuit so formed is very small, thus a large
amount of current flows through the circuit and heats the wires to a high
temperature and a fire may start.

OR
(c)i.In parallel circuits, if one electrical appliance stops working due to some defect,
then all other appliances keep working normally.
ii.In parallel circuits, each electrical appliance has its own switch due to which it can
be turned on or turned off independently, without affecting other appliances

26 When the tip of the tendril comes in contact with the support more 2
auxin is diffused from the tip towards the side of the tendril away

from the support. As a result that side grows faster and causes the
tendril to bend around the support.
27 (a) Light coming from the stars are supposed to travel in a straight 3
line. But the refractive index of air is not same throughout. It
changes as hot air rarer than cold air. So refraction takes place.
In this case, straight continuously travel from a rarer medium
to denser medium. Hence it is continuously bends towards the
normal.
The continuously bending of stars light towards the normal 163
results in a rise of the apparent position of the star.
(b) Scattering of light take place because of the particles present in
atmosphere. At high altitudes due to absence of atmosphere
scattering of light do not take place and hence sky appears
dark to passengers flying at high altitudes.

28 Grass (pJ) → Grass hopper (qJ) → Frog (rJ) → Snake (sJ) → Peacock 3
(2J)
According to 10% law energy available to snake is:
10% of s = 2J
s = 20J
Similarly energy available to frog is:
10% of r = 20 J
r = 200 J 258
Similarly, energy available to grasshopper is :
10% of q = 200 J
q = 2000 J
Now, energy present in grass is:
10% of p = 2000 J
p = 20,000 J
Thus, energy present is grass is 20,000 J.

(a) Greater than slope of V-I graph, greater will be the resistance of
given metallic wire. In the given graph, wire A has greater slope
then B. Hence, wire A has greater resistance.
For the wires of same length and same thickness, resistance
depends on the nature of material of the wire. Hence wire A has
high resistivity. (R α ρ)
(b) (i)No, the bulbs in the two circuits will not glow with the same
brightness. The resistance in the parallel connection of resistors is
always less than the resistance in series connection. As a
consequence, the current in the series combination is one-third that
of the current in each bulb inside the parallel combination. So, the
bulbs in parallel connection will grow with more brightness.

(ii)If one bulb gets fused, the entire circuit will break in series
connection. So, no current will flow in of the bulbs. All three
bulbs will stop glowing in series connection. In a parallel
connection, the situation is different. Even if the bulb gets fused,
the current will continue to flow in the other two bulbs. So, in
parallel connection, the other two bulbs will continue to glow.

Activity:
Aim: To show that hydrate copper sulphate and anhydrous
copper sulphate are inter-convertible.
Apparatus Required: CUSO4.5H2O (Blue vitriol) burner,
boiling tube, delivery tube, test tube.
Procedure:
(a) Heat a few crystals of copper sulphate in a dry boiling
tube.
(b) After having, water is removed and salt turns white.
(c) Add 2-3 drops of water on the sample of copper
sulphate obtained after heating.
(d) When crystals are moistened again with water blue
colour reappears.
Chemical Reaction:
CuSO4.5H2O ∆ CuSO4 + 5H2O
Result: Crystaline substances have water of crystallization
which is lost on heating. When hydrated copper sulphate is
heated, it converts into anhydrous copper sulphate. When
water is added again to it, it gets converted into hydrated
copper sulphate. This shows that both are inter-convertible.
