OE || CD (Converse of Basic proportionality theorem)………………………1/2
We know that, OE || AB and OE || CD
Thus, AB || CD………………………………………………………………..1/2
Hence ABCD is a trapezium as one pair of opposite sides AB and CD are parallel.

The angle of elevation of a cloud from a point 60m above a lake is 30° and the angle of 2
depression of the reflection of cloud in the lake is 60°. Find the height of fig
the cloud from the surface of the lake.
Let C be the position of the cloud and let D be its reflection in the lake.
From right ΔPQC, we have 1
PQ/CQ=cot30∘=√3
⇒PQ=x√3 m -----------(i)
From right ΔPQD, we have 1
PQ/QD=cot60∘=1/√3
⇒PQ/(x+60+60)m=1/√3
⇒PQ=(x+120)√3 m -------(ii)
Equating the values of PQ from (i) and (ii), we get
x√3=(x+120)/√3 m .5
⇒3x=x+120
⇒2x=120
⇒x=60
∴ height of the cloud from the surface of the lake =BC .5
