Introduction
Complete this lab exercise to practice what you learned in the “Configuration Management” section of this course.
In this activity, you will learn how to use the Configuration Management features of Cisco EPN Manager.
Lab Topology
Activity Procedure
Complete these steps:
Step 1
From the jump host, open the Google Chrome web browser and click the Cisco EPN Manager bookmark
(https://epnm-40.lab.local) on the toolbar to access your Cisco EPN Manager server.
Step 2
Log in as user root with the password Pass1234.
Step 3
From the menu, choose Administration > Settings > System Settings.
Step 4
From the submenu, type configuration into the search field. From the results, choose Configuration Archive.
Step 5
Make sure that the Basic tab is selected. Review the settings and set the Hold Off Timer to 1 minute to allow
for the quick archiving of configurations after changes are made (to facilitate future labs, not necessarily a best
practice).
Step 6
Click Save.
Step 7
Click the Advanced tab.
Step 8
Choose the Routers product family, and note the commands that will not be considered a change, thus not
prompting a configuration archive.

You have reviewed and verified the Configuration Archive settings.
Activity Procedure
Complete these steps:
Step 1
From the menu, choose Inventory > Device Management > Network Devices.
Step 2
Click the name of the XRv9K-1 device. The Device Details view is displayed.
Step 3
Click the Configuration Archive tab, and expand the top entry.
Step 4
Click Details to view the archived running configuration.
Step 5
In the upper-right corner of the Running Configuration window, click the Add to Dock icon and close the window.
Step 6
In the upper-right corner of the Cisco EPN Manager page, open the dock by clicking the Dock icon. Note that
your device running the configuration is now easily accessible from here, which is an important time saver when
you are troubleshooting many devices.
Remember this method of accessing a specific device’s archived configurations; we will visit it again when
comparing different versions of configurations.
Step 7
Click the X icon to close the Dock.

You have viewed the configuration that is specific to a device.
Activity Procedure
Complete these steps:
Step 1
From the menu, choose Inventory > Device Management > Configuration Archive.
Step 2
The Devices tab lists all managed devices and the most currently archived configuration. Click the Latest
Archive date of the XRv9K-1 device to view the configuration file.
Step 3
Close the configuration file and click the name of a device to jump to the archive that is specific for that device.
Note: You are only likely to see one copy of each device configuration because the devices have only recently
been added to the EPN Manager inventory.
Step 4
To return to the archive, from the page title, choose Configuration Archive.
Step 5
Click the Archives tab to view all archived files.
Step 6
To schedule periodic archiving, return to the Devices tab.
Step 7
Check the check box of the XRv9K-1 device.
Step 8
Choose Schedule Archive Collection.
Step 9
Schedule the archive to run daily. Make sure that you provide a meaningful job name, so that you can
differentiate your job from others.
Step 11
To label an archived configuration file, click the Archives tab.
Step 12
Click the device name of the XRv9K-1 device. A list of this device’s archived configuration files is displayed.
Step 13
Click the radio button of the most current archive.
Step 14
Click Edit Tag.
Step 15
Enter a label for this configuration (such as XRv9K-1_Baseline_Configuration).
Step 16
Click Save. You will use this baseline configuration in a later task.
Activity Verification
You have completed this task when you attain these results:
You have successfully viewed an archived configuration file.
You have successfully scheduled a configuration archive job.
You have successfully tagged a configuration file.
Activity Procedure
Complete these steps:
Step 1
From the menu, choose Inventory > Device Management > Network Devices.
Step 2
Click the name of the XRv9K-1 device. Click the Configuration tab for the XRv9K-1 device.
Step 3
In the left navigation pane, expand Interfaces and choose Loopback.
Step 4
To add an extra Loopback interface, click Add.
Step 5
In the Loopback Interface Number field, enter 312.
Step 6
In the IPv4 Address pane, set the IP Type to Static IP and enter the address 1.1.1.1/255.255.255.255.
Step 7
Click Save. The job runs immediately.
Step 8
Verify that the changes have been made to the device. From the Jump Host toolbar, open a PuTTY session to
the XRv9K-1 device and log in with the username cisco and the password cisco.
Step 9
Enter the command show ipv4 interface brief and notice the Loopback 312 interface.
Step 10
Cisco EPN Manager receives a syslog, indicating that the configuration has changed, and after 1 minute (set in
Task 1) archives this new file.
Click the Configuration Archive tab and click the Refresh icon periodically until the new archived configuration
is displayed.
Step 11
When the new configuration has been archived, expand the entry for the most recently archived configuration,
and choose Compare > Previous.
Step 12
From the Select Type drop-down menu, choose Difference Only. Notice the added Loopback interface details
highlighted in blue text. When you have finished, close the Configuration Comparison window.
Activity Verification
You have completed this task when you attain these results:
You have successfully modified a device configuration, using the single device configuration management
features.
You have compared two archived files.
Activity Procedure
Complete these steps:
Step 1
From the Configuration Archive tab that you were using in the previous task, choose the configuration file that
you tagged in an earlier task.
Step 2
Expand the tagged entry and click Details to view the archived running configuration.
Step 3
Review the configuration and verify that the Loopback 312 interface is not present. Close the configuration file
window.
Step 4
Click Schedule Archive Rollback.
Step 5
In the Schedule Configuration Rollback window, uncheck the Archive Before Rollback check box.
Step 6
Click Submit. Accept the information message.
Step 7
A pop-up message appears in the lower-right of the page. To view the job progress, click the Click here link.
Note: If you miss the pop-up message, you can navigate to Administration > Dashboards > Job Dashboard to
locate the job.
Step 8
Review the job results. You may need to click the refresh icon periodically until the job completes. Verify that your
job was completed successfully.
Step 9
Navigate to the configuration archive. From the main menu, choose Inventory > Device Management >
Configuration Archive and click the XRv9K-1 device name.
Step 10
Notice that a new configuration has been archived. The Created By column shows that this collection has been
triggered by a Syslog message.
Step 11
Compare this newest archived file with the previous file to verify that the Loopback interface has been removed.
(To do this, expand the top configuration file entry and click Previous.)
Step 12
Close the Configuration Comparison window.
Step 13
Return to the PuTTY session and enter the command show ipv4 interface brief. Notice that the Loopback 312
interface has been removed.

You have restored your assigned device to its baseline configuration.
