INTRODUCTION:
The Post-Processing Framework (PPF) in SAP Extended Warehouse Management
(EWM) is a mechanism used to trigger and manage background processes after
certain warehouse activities or events occur. It helps automate tasks such as sending
notifications, printing labels, or executing external programs after specific processes
are completed in the warehouse.
1. Automation of Post-Processing Activities: PPF enables the automatic triggering of
activities such as sending emails, updating statuses, or printing documents like
packing lists or labels once a particular event (like picking or delivery) has occurred.
2. Integration with Other SAP Modules: The framework integrates with other
modules, including SAP ERP, SAP S/4HANA, and SAP EWM itself, to streamline
operations. It helps facilitate communication and data transfer across systems.
3. Conditions and Actions:
• Conditions define when a post-processing action should be triggered. For
example, you can set conditions like after a goods receipt, after a warehouse task
is confirmed, or when a shipment is complete.
• Actions are the tasks that will be triggered when a certain condition is met. These
actions can include printing a document, sending an email, or starting a custom
function.
4. Flexible Configuration: PPF allows you to define conditions, actions, and their
sequences according to the specific requirements of your business processes. The
framework is highly configurable through the SAP GUI or transaction codes like SPAD
(for printing) or SCOT (for sending emails).
Uses of PPF in SAP EWM:
• Printing Barcodes/Labels: Triggering the printing of labels for goods after they
are moved to specific locations.
• Sending Notifications: Automatically sending emails or messages about
inventory updates or shipping statuses.
• Shipping Confirmations: Automatically triggering the creation of shipment
documents or sending shipping updates once a delivery is complete.
• Automating External Interfaces: Triggering custom programs or sending data to
external systems (e.g., third-party transport systems) after certain events.
