 Identify common defects in computer systems and networks.

 Classify defects as hardware, software, or network-related.
 Apply basic troubleshooting techniques to resolve identified defects.
 Value the importance of systematic troubleshooting in maintaining computer systems.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Topic: Defects and Troubleshooting in Computer System and Networks
Reference: CSS Learning Module (p. 45-52)
Materials: Laptop, projector, printed troubleshooting flowchart/PowerPoint presentation,
activity sheets, chalk, and board

III. DEVELOPMENT OF THE LESSON

A. Preparatory Activities

1. Prayer
2. Checking of Attendance
3. Review of the Past Lesson

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

Good morning, class! Good morning, Sir

Hope you’re all doing well! Before we begin kindly check under
your chairs and pick up any litter. Let’s keep our classroom tidy!

Now, let’s take a moment to pause and reflect. Please stand as

Alright, let’s settle down. I’ll go ahead and check the attendance
first.
(Students respond during roll
call)
Now, who can share what we talked about in our previous Sir, it was about Computer
lesson? Don’t be shy! System Components.

Great job! You remembered it well. Now, here’s something to Sir, so we can identify issues
think about—why do you think it’s important to understand the faster and fix them correctly.

Have you ever experienced your computer crashing or the Wi-Fi Yes, Sir
disconnecting?

What did you do to fix it? I restarted the router /

rebooted the computer.
Very good! Today, we’ll talk about common computer and
network defects and how to troubleshoot them.

C. Lesson Proper

1. Activity

 Show images of hardware defects (e.g., Defective RAM, dusty CPU, disconnected
cables) and network errors (e.g., IP conflict, no internet icon).

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

Look at these images. What can you notice? Sir, the CPU has dust buildup.
Correct! What could happen if this is not It might overheat and shut down.
cleaned?
What about this network icon with a red X? Sir, it means there’s no internet connection.

2. Discussion

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

Let’s define what defects are. (Students listen attentively)

Defects are issues that affect the performance and reliability of

computer systems and networks.

There are three main types of defects:

1. hardware,
2. software, and
3. network-related.

What happens when RAM is faulty? Sir, the system may crash or
freeze.

Correct! What causes slow internet speed? Weak Wi-Fi signal or

network congestion.
3. Generalization

troubleshooting?
How can systematic troubleshooting help us? It saves time and helps fix the problem
accurately.

D. Practice Exercise

 Distribute worksheets with real-life defect scenarios.

 Students will identify the type of defect and list the troubleshooting steps.

Student Activity Table:

Case Scenario Suggested Troubleshooting Steps

Computer randomly shuts down. Check for overheating, clean cooling fans.
Slow internet connection. Restart router, check for signal issues.
Computer not booting. Check power supply and connections.
Frequent application crashes. Reinstall software, update drivers.
Wi-Fi not connecting. Reset network settings, check IP conflicts.

E. Valuing

Teacher’s Activity
Why is it important to learn how to troubleshoot?
How can these skills help you outside the classroom?
Very good! Always remember, understanding defects and knowing how to fix them is a valuable
skill.

F. Evaluation

 Answer the following questions on a ½ sheet of paper:

1. What is a common symptom of an overheating CPU?
2. How would you fix a slow Wi-Fi connection?
3. What’s the first step in troubleshooting hardware defects?

G. Assignment

 Research common preventive maintenance techniques for computer systems.

 Prepare a short guide on how to avoid frequent network issues.
