COMPETITION MECHANICS

1. This competition is open for


a. Junior and Senior High School students in the Philippines;
b. Currently enrolled in Grades 9 to 12;
c. Ages 14 to 19; and
d. A participant in one of the Shell NXplorers Workshops on year 2023,
2024, and/or 2025.

2. Each team must consist of a minimum of two (2) and a maximum of five (5)
students. Please note that each student can only be a member of one team.
A teacher/adviser may supervise max of 3 teams from the school they
represent.

3. Using NXthinking and NXtools, each team must identify a local community issue
relating to food, water and/or energy, and propose an innovative solution.

4. The participating team must accomplish the following forms/documents:


• Entry Form
• Teacher Cover Sheet
• Shell Photo and Video Consent Form

5. Submit a 3-minute video (note: maximum running time is 3 minutes) of your


team’s entry using the Persuasion Pyramid. Refer to the competition’s Terms
and Conditions for details on the video recording requirements.

6. Upload and send your team’s video via The Shell NXplorers-The Bright Ideas
Challenge 2025 Submission Portal: TBIC 2025 Submission Portal

7. Submission of form and entries is from March 10 to March 21, 2025 (11:59
PM)
8. All entries will be judged in Phase 1 (Preliminary Round) according
to the following criteria
I. Framing the Problem Statement – 20%
II. Effective Use of NXthinking and NXtools – 50%
a. Explore Tools – 15%
b. Create Tools – 15%
c. Change Tools – 10%
d. Persuasion Pyramid – 10%
III. Application of the Solution – 30%
a. Is the idea new or innovative? – 10%
b. What is the relevance of the proposed solution? Are the benefits
significant? – 10%
c. Is the proposed solution feasible and scalable? – 10%

GRAND TOTAL – 100%

9. During the Preliminary Round, the judges will determine the ten (10)
teams who will qualify for Finals. The announcement will be on March 28,
2025. The finalists will showcase their entries at The Bright Ideas
Challenge Finals via Zoom on May 7-8, 2025 either as a prototype, scale
model, diagram, illustration, campaigns, video, website, apps, etc.

10. During the finals, the teams will be assessed using the following criteria:

• 20% Relevance – What kind of issue/s the project is trying to solve? How
will it help the community? And how much of an impact will it be?
• 15% Innovation – How does the solution answer the issues or the
problems presented?
• 25% Feasibility – Can the study be implemented? Will the theory work
repeatedly and can be deemed as a sustainable solution?
• 20% Scalable – Can it work and be implemented in different scales?
• 20% Online Presentation - Did the team effectively present
and defend their idea? Did they use creative communications materials to
present their idea - presentation slide pack, animations, drawings,
videos, scale model, etc.?
GRAND TOTAL – 100%

11. The prizes available in this Competition (the “Prizes”) are as follows:

Rank/Place Prize
Php 100,000 for the Team (including the teacher-mentor) + Php
Champion
50,000.00 for the school, Trophy and certificates.
Php 70,000.00 for the Team (including the teacher-mentor) +
1st Runner-Up
Php 35,000.00 for the school, Trophy and certificates.
Php 50,000.00 for the Team (including the teacher-mentor) +
2nd Runner-Up
Php 25,000.00 for the school, Trophy and certificates.
Two (2) Merit
Awardees Php 20,000.00 for the team.

The remaining five (5) teams will take home Php 10,000 each as consolation prize.

12. A special prize will be given to the project entry that receives the highest
number of public votes, known as the People's Choice Award. The team
with the winning entry will be recognized for their achievement and
awarded a cash prize of PHP 20,000 as a token of appreciation.

13. The announcement of winners will happen during The Bright Ideas
Challenge Online Culminating activity which will be held on May 16,
2025.
