CALL FOR PROPOSALS


imake.wemake: create. innovate. collaborate.
___________________________________________________________________

The project imake.wemake is a project of the Science Education Institute of the


Department of Science and Technology geared towards unleashing the creativity of
young Filipinos to enable them to discover their potentials and learn the process of
using innovation to achieve a particular purpose that will benefit their community of
interest. It packs in competencies such as project proposal making, communication
skills, critical and analytical thinking, engineering and technical skills and the value of
risk and failure analysis. More than anything, it is founded on the values associated
with creating, collaborating, and innovating to come up with a product and application
that will solve a particular problem in a community.

CONTEST MECHANICS:

STAGE 1: CALL FOR PROPOSALS AND SELECTION OF QUALIFIED PROJECTS

1. Team Composition
a. The competition is open to school teams (one per school) composed of
Filipino senior high school students enrolled in public and private
schools, including those from science high schools and S&T-oriented
high schools.

b. Each school team should be composed of four (4) Grade 11 or 12


students, preferably with equal number of female and male participants,
and one (1) senior high school science teacher who will serve as the
coach.

2. Proposed projects should address any of the following areas but not limited
to:
a. Food Safety i. Environment
b. Security j. and other technology
c. Traffic / Road Congestion innovations (i.e: Artificial
d. Health Intelligence, Virtual Reality,
e. Education Internet of Things (IoT),
f. Disaster Mitigation Robotics, etc.)
g. Business
h. Agriculture

3. Each team should propose an embedded systems project using a


microcomputer/microcontroller.

4. The proposal should focus on its novelty, innovation, and impact to the
chosen problem area.

5. The proposal should include a technology validation and a patentability check


or patent search. This is a required documentation where teams should be
able to determine if their proposal does not pertain to an innovation similar to
a technology or device listed in the public domain.

6. The proposal should reflect flexible working arrangements, through the use of
a Gantt chart, allowing remote work on the proposed project and in line with
the imake.wemake timeline.

7. Project Proposal Submission

a. Each school should submit only one (1) project proposal.

b. The imake.wemake entry form contains two (2) sections, the Personal
Information Section, and the Project Proposal Section that can be
downloaded from the link shown in the publication materials or through
this link: https://bit.ly/6thimwm

c. The imake.wemake entry form should then be submitted in PDF file


format.

d. Only proposals using the accomplished imake.wemake entry forms will


be evaluated for pre-qualification.
e. A 3-minute video presentation (in MP4 and AVI file formats only)
supporting the idea or concept of the proposed project should also be
submitted together with the proposal entry form.

f. Accomplished entry forms together with the video presentation should
be placed in a Google Drive folder following the file name format below:
i. Entry Folder: IMWM_SCHOOL NAME
ii. imake.wemake Entry Form: IMWM_SCHOOL NAME.PDF
iii. imake.wemake Entry Video: IMWM_SCHOOL NAME.mov,
IMWM_SCHOOL NAME.mp4 or IMWM_SCHOOL NAME.avi
The Google Drive link should be then submitted through the official
imake.wemake email at imake.wemake@sei.dost.gov.ph with subject
IMAKE.WEMAKE PROJECT ENTRY FROM <SCHOOL>. Make sure
that the Google Drive folder is shareable to us.

The entry form can also be sent via door-to-door delivery in printed form
using A4-sized paper with the video burned or saved in a compact disc
(CD) or USB Thumb Drive/Flash Drive sealed in a long brown envelope
addressed to:

8. The deadline for submission of imake.wemake Project Proposal is on


November 30, 2022.

9. All project proposals received within the deadline will be screened and
evaluated by the Board of Judges (BOJ) to select the top 20 entries.

10. Criteria for evaluation and selection may include the following:
a. Relevance and potential impact - Does it solve a problem? How will the
project benefit the community of interest? How many people will benefit
from this project if used in the community?
b. Novelty - originality of the proposed project. Is the project a new
idea/concept, or an innovation of an existing one? Show proof of
patentability test
c. Viability - is the project doable? What is the level of difficulty? How does
the team plan to execute the project given the restrictions posed by the
COVID-19 pandemic?

11. School teams that have been selected will be notified through e-mail, mobile
messaging, landline communications, or thru social media.

STAGE 2: PROJECT MENTORING AND TECHNICAL TRAINING & WORKSHOP

1. Finalists shall be announced via postings through the project’s official


Facebook page, the DOST-SEI website, and thru the coaches’ email in
January 2023.

2. Qualified school teams shall be sent online invitations through their registered
e-mails regarding the details of the Online Technical Training & Workshop and
Project Mentoring.

3. The Project Mentoring will be held on February 2023 at TBA. This activity
aims to provide the participants a practical advice from the BOJ before they
proceed on the build phase of the competition.

4. After the project mentoring, the team composition and approved project
proposals shall be deemed as the school’s official entry for the Final Project
Presentation. Any revision, should be coursed through the imake.wemake
Secretariat and the Board of Judges for approval.

5. Qualified school teams shall then undergo a 5-day training encompassing


basic electronics, programming, sensor applications, and troubleshooting.

6. The Technical Training & Workshop will be held on February 2023 at TBA.

7. There will be no limit in terms of project cost as teams are encouraged to find
an industry partner or collaborate with other stakeholders in their community.
However, actual cost incurred during the building phase of the prototype
should be properly disclosed in the documentation.

8. All twenty (20) school finalists shall receive a standard Kit-of-Parts (KOP) and
shall be delivered to their school address before the Online Technical Training
& Workshop and Mentoring.

STAGE 3: FINAL PROJECT PRESENTATION AND AWARDING CEREMONY

1. Each team is required to submit the following requirements for Final Project
Presentation:

a. A PDF copy of their Final Paper following the format as provided in the
annexes:
i. Project Title
ii. Rationale and Objectives
iii. Methodology

iv. Results and Discussion
v. Technology Validation
vi. Actual Project Cost
vii. Recommendation
viii. Conclusion

2. Each team will then be given a maximum of ten (10) minutes to answer the
questions from the BOJ. Teams must have their projects on-hand or at their
reach as simulations and sample runs may be requested.

3. The criteria for judging are as follows:

4. The board of judges shall then select the top three (3) project proposals who
will be awarded with the “Youth Innovation Prize.”

5. The Final Presentation and Awarding Ceremony will be held on May 2023.

6. Failure to complete the project cycle must return the Kit-of-Parts (KOP) to
DOST-SEI and provide a letter of withdrawal.

AWARDS and PRIZES:

The team-awardee of the Youth Innovation Prize will receive a trophy and a cash grant
amounting to TWO HUNDRED THOUSAND PESOS (Php 200,000.00) and TWENTY
THOUSAND PESOS (PHP 20,000) for the winning team-coaches.
