LESSON PLAN

Grade Level: 7 Topic: Describing Motion School: Adventist Academy Cebu

Quarter: 3rd Time: 1 hour (3:00 – 4:00) C.T. : Mrs. Jean Julian
Chapter: 8 Date Demonstration: February 4, 2025
I. 🎯Learning Target
Objectives
At the end of the lesson, I can:
1️⃣Cognitive (C): Define reference point and explain motion in relation to it.
2️⃣Affective (A): Appreciate the importance of understanding motion in daily life.
3️⃣Psychomotor (P): Differentiate distance and displacement through an engaging movement-based
activity and perform simple calculations.

Integration of Faith and Learning (IFL)

📖 Bible Principle:
"For the mountains may depart and the hills be removed, but My steadfast love shall not depart
from you, and My covenant of peace shall not be removed,” says the Lord, who has compassion on
you." – Isaiah 54:10 (ESV)

💬Connection to the Lesson:

Just as we measure distance and displacement by comparing an object’s position to a fixed point,
we as individuals must keep God as our reference point in life, guiding our direction and decisions.
Understanding motion in relation to a reference point can remind us of how we should stay
grounded in our faith, knowing that God’s love and peace are our ultimate constants, guiding us
through life's movements.

✨Values and Traits:

🧑‍🤝‍🧑 Responsibility: Taking ownership of understanding key concepts in motion.
🤝 Respect: Working cooperatively with classmates during activities.
💪 Patience and Perseverance: Demonstrating persistence in problem-solving exercises.
🤲 Humility: Acknowledging that sometimes, we need guidance to fully grasp new

🏫Curriculum Link:
🔬 Science: Understand motion and its relationship to a reference point; differentiate
between distance and displacement.
🔢 Mathematics: Apply measurement concepts and problem-solving techniques in
calculating distance and displacement.

👩‍🏫Teaching Methodology and Strategies Used

🕹 Interactive Learning: Using the "Red Light, Green Light" game and "Toy Car
Challenge" to engage students in active learning and help them grasp the
concepts in a fun and relatable way.
👥 Collaborative Learning: Group work and peer interaction during the measurement and
problem-solving activities.
📚 Direct Instruction: Clear explanations and guided problem-solving to ensure proper
understanding of motion, distance, and displacement.
🔧 Hands-On Activities: Allowing students to apply the concepts through practical
activities, reinforcing theoretical knowledge through action.

II. Lesson Structure (A.M.T. Approach)

Opening Prayer (1 minute)
Present Objectives (1 minute)
💡 Purpose: Before introducing the key terms, students will experience
A – Acquisition motion first-hand through a fun, interactive game.
(10 min.) 📌Materials:
🚦“Red Light, Green  Open classroom space
Light” Game  Red and green paper (or teacher can just say “Red Light!” / “Green
Light!”)
🎲Instructions:
1. Set Up: Choose one student as the "Stoplight" who will stand at the
front of the classroom. The rest of the students will line up at the
back.
2. Game Rules:
o When the Stoplight says, "Green Light!", students walk
forward.
o When the Stoplight says, "Red Light!", students must freeze.
o If students move when they should be frozen, they return to the
start.
3. Discussion After the Game:
o "What did you notice about your motion?"
o "How did you know you were moving?"
o "What was your reference point?"
📌 Teacher’s Role: Guide students to realize that motion is determined by
comparing an object's position to a reference point (e.g., their starting
position). Introduce the definition of motion and the role of a reference
point.
💡 Purpose: Students will apply the concepts of distance and
M – Measurement displacement using toy cars and classroom objects as
(20 min.) reference points.
🚗 “Toy Car 📌 Materials:
Challenge” 🚗 Toy cars (or any small rolling object)
📏 Rulers or measuring tape
🏁 Masking tape/chalk to mark starting and ending points
🎲 Instructions:
1️. Pair Up: Students work in pairs to roll a toy car from a starting point.
2️. Mark and Measure:
 Students mark where the car stops and measure the distance
traveled (total path length).
 Identify the displacement (shortest straight-line distance from start
to end).
3️. Discussion Questions:
 "Is the distance always equal to displacement?"
 "What happens if the car moves forward and then rolls back?"
 "How would you calculate distance and displacement?"
📌 Teacher’s Role: Guide students to understand that distance is the total
path traveled, while displacement is the shortest straight-line distance
from start to end.
💡 Purpose: Reinforce the concepts through simple problem-solving
T – Technique exercises.
(Application) 📌 Activity:
(20 min.) – 1️. Group Work: Students solve real-world motion problems using
📝 Solving Motion distance vs. displacement concepts.
Problems 2️. Example Problem:
 A student walks 5m east, then 5m west. What is the distance? What
is the displacement?
 Distance = 10m
 Displacement = 0m (because the student returned to the starting
point).
📌 Teacher’s Role: Guide students through calculations and clarify
misconceptions.

III. Assessment & Wrap-Up (Last 7 Minutes)

Quick Review:
 🏃‍♂️What is motion? (Students define in their own words)
 📏 What is the difference between distance and displacement?

True or False Quiz: Distance and Displacement

Instruction:
- Read each statement carefully.
- Write True if the statement is correct, or False if the statement is incorrect.
- Write your answer in the space provided.
1. Distance is a vector quantity. ______
2. Displacement refers to the shortest path between the starting point and the ending point. ____
3. Distance only considers the direction of motion. ______
4. Displacement can be zero even if the distance traveled is not zero. ______
5. Distance is always equal to or greater than displacement. ______
