Grams and kilograms are what we use,

Measure mass with ease.
Grams and kilograms, up and down,
Go up and down, up and down,
Small things use grams, all around,
Big things, kilograms.

Toy car weighs just a few grams,

A few grams, a few grams,
But the schoolbag weighs much more,
Kilograms, for sure!

Grams and kilograms, up and down,

Go up and down, up and down,
Small things use grams, all around,
Big things, kilograms.

Have you ever tried going to the market with your mother?
Did you notice what the vendors do with the goods your mother
selected?

2. Presentation
“A Day at the Market”

One sunny Saturday morning, Teacher Fajilan went to the Batangas

New Public Market to buy ingredients for her family. She brought her
shopping list and eco bags and started at the rice stall, where she got 2
kilograms of rice. Then, she went to the spice stall and bought 1 kilogram
of salt, 500 grams of sugar, and 250 grams of flour for baking.

She moved on to the vegetable stalls and picked fresh cabbage,

squash, bitter melon, and leafy greens for healthy meals. At the fruit stall,
she chose some sweet mangoes and apples. Feeling happy with her
purchases, she smiled and said, “What a beautiful day ahead.”

1. Who are the characters in the story?

2. Where did Mrs. Fajilan go?
3. What are the units of mass for the items she bought?
4. What unit of mass were used for the rice and salt? What unit of
mass were used for the sugar and flour?
5. How do we know which unit of mass to use?

3. Discussion

Mass is used to measure the weight of an object. Measuring the mass of

particular object means weighing them. We use different weighing scales to weigh
objects.

The Common units that we use for measuring weight are grams and kilogram. The
unit gram (g) are used for small and light objects, while kilogram (kg) are use for
heavier objects.
1 kilogram (kg)= 1 000 grams (g)

4. Reinforcing the concepts and skills

“Let’s weigh Activity”
The teacher and the pupils will weight the fruits and vegetables that the
teacher brought from the market.

5. Generalization
How can we measure the exact mass of an object? What are the
common unit used for measuring mass?

The exact mass of an object can be measure by using weighing scale and the
common unit for measuring mass are gram ang kilogram.

6. Application

Group Activity
Divide the pupil into three groups. The teacher will provide different activities for
each group. The following are the tasks that will be given to each group,

Group 3
Group Weighing Activity
Materials Needed: Weighing scale, paper, and pencil.
Steps:
1. Place the scale on a flat surface.
2. Assign a recorder to write down weights.
3. Each member takes turns stepping on the scale.
4. Add all weights to get the total.
