REFLECTION 5Minute NonStop Writing begins …..

NOW!

From the Module on LearnerCentered Psychological Principles, I realized that learning is

not that easy because each student need different kind of learning, depending on how they
want to learn and the things that can make a person learn are different. Students learn in
different ways and coping up is an another way too. Learning is also a very diverse process,
wherein different factors affect also the student’s learning capabilities. I also realized that
student’s have different kinds of motivation and it’s all up to them on how carry on these
motivations to learn.

Test Yourself
1. Do the following to ensure mastery of the bid ideas presented in this Module.

a. Give the meaning of human development

-the pattern of movement or change that begins at conception and continues

through the life span. It incudes growth and decline.
2. Fill in the blanks with the correct answer. Patterns of development
a. The direction of growth following the cephalocaudal pattern is from the top
to the head .
b. The direction of growth following the proximodistal pattern is from
Centre of the body to the Extremities .

3. Difference between the traditional and lifespan approaches to human development.

The difference between the traditional and life-span approaches to human

development are; in traditional approach, it emphasizes extensive change from birth
to adolescence, little to no change in adulthood and decline in old age while in life-
span approach, the pattern of movement or change that begins at conception and
continues through human life span.

4. Characteristics of human development from a lifespan perspective.

Development is life-long

Characteristics of
human
development

(Sir hindi ko po mainsert cellphone lang po kasi gamit ko, ilagay ko nalang po dito)

-Development is life-long.

-Development is plastic.

-Development is multidimensional.
-Development is contextual.

-Development involves growth, maintenance, and regulation.

5. In one sentence, write the characteristics of human development expressed in this

Venn diagram.

The characteristics of human development from a life span perspective are;

development is life-long, development is plastic, development is multidimensional,
development is contextual and development involves growth, maintenance and
regulation.

6. Discuss the meaning of the quotations written beneath the title of these Unit and
Module. Relate the quotation to your life. Child care, education and parenting.

“Every man is in certain respects like all other men, like some other men, no other men.”

I think that this quotation is saying that all people have something in common, some people
have things in common with some others but not all, and all people probably have something
unique- something different from anyone else.

“Man is an unfinished project. He is always in the process of becoming.”

I think that this quotation means that a man will never know when will it be finished. We are
all in the process of learning, growing and developing. Learning is a never-ending process,
even if we are already in our old age, there are still things that we don’t know and there are
always some new things to learn. We all have our tomorrow and we’ll never know and
predict what might happen tomorrow, we’ll never know what we are going to do tomorrow.
We are always in the process of becoming something better than our past.
7. Put a before a correct statement and an x before a wrong one. If you put x,
explain why.

1. ✔️Development is a pattern of change.

2. ✔️Development is either growth or decline.
3. ❌From both traditional and lifespan perspectives development islifelong. (I put an
X because only the life-span approach states that development is life-long and
according to the traditional approach, development is an extensive change)
4. ✔️In the development process, there are things that hold true to allpeople.
5. ❌ Individuals develop uniformly.
6. ✔️Development is predictable because it follows an orderly process.
7. ❌Development is unidimensional. (I marked it X because development is
multidimensional)
8. ❌Development takes place in a vaccum. (I put an X because development takes
place gradually, not on a vacuum.)
9. ✔️The effect of biological process on development is isolated from theeffect of
cognitive and socioemotional processes.

Findings Conclusions

Source:
Jim Borden, Borden’s Blather, jborden.com; Helen Pearson’s The Life Project
Problem:
Children born into poverty or into disadvantage are far more likely to walk a difficult path in
life.
Research methodology:
Tracking of thousand of children born in one cold week. They are studied up until today by
simply observing on how human life has changed the way they are born.
Findings:
Children born into poverty have been more likely to struggle on almost every score. They’ve
been more likely to do worse at school, to end up with worse jobs and to earn less money.
Children who had a tough start in life are also more likely to end up unhealthy as adults.
They’re more likely to be overweight, to have high blood pressure, and then decades down
the line, more likely to have a failing memory, poor health and even to die earlier.
Conclusions:
Pearson concluded that, on average children born into poverty grow up to do less well by
every measure.
How are the findings of this research useful to teachers?
Teachers are more aware on how these factors affects children and this research is an eye-
opener to the teachers that not all students get the same opportunities in life.

Reflection

5Minute NonStop Writing begins….NOW!

Guide Questions:

1. You are a bundle of possibilities. You are meant to develop like any other living thing
or else you will rut. Remember “Growth is an evidence of life.” If you are alive, then
you must be growing and developing. Are you on your way to development?
2. Like you, each of your future student is also a bundle of possibilities. How should you
look at them in items of development? Write down your reflections. There’s no
wrong answer, remember.

I can clearly say that I am growing and developing because as time passes by, I have
overcome a lot of trials and hardships in my life. I have surpassed them all with the help of
God, my family and my friends. I am also not ashamed to admit that I have made mistakes
before that has now became a lesson to me and I have learned from it. I cannot say that I am
fully developed because I know that in some aspects of life, there are still things which I am
lack of- an example is my spiritual and emotional. I cannot say that I am fully developed but I
am sure that I am still growing and learning. I cannot really perceive possibilities with my
future students because I don’t dream to be an educator (no offense I salute all educators), I
dream to be a doctor because that’s the dream I want to achieve and I only got this
education course because it is a part of my 4 th year subjects but if I were given an
opportunity as a teacher, I would like to try. And as I try to become a teacher, I will open
myself more to learn to understand the diversities/differences of each of my student and I
will look for ways on how I can help and influence each one of them.
