Types of Sentences
1. What is a Sentence?
Example:
The dog (subject) barked loudly (predicate).
A. Simple Sentence
Example:
She runs every morning.
B. Compound Sentence
• Joined by coordinating conjunctions (FANBOYS: for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so).
Example:
He studied hard, and he passed the test.
C. Complex Sentence
• Has one independent clause and one or more dependent (subordinate) clauses.
Example:
Because it was raining, we stayed indoors.
D. Compound-Complex Sentence
• Has at least two independent clauses and one or more dependent clauses.
Example:
Although she was tired, she finished her homework, and she went to bed.
