Lifi PPTX (Ruchi)

Li-Fi is a wireless communication technology that uses light to transmit data between devices. It works by varying the intensity of LED lights faster than the human eye can detect to transmit binary code. Compared to Wi-Fi, Li-Fi has advantages such as higher data transfer rates, lower power consumption, and more available bandwidth in the light spectrum. However, it also has disadvantages like a smaller transmission range limited by light intensity and susceptibility to interference from light blockages.

ABSTRACT
LI-FI is a wireless communication technology which untilizes wireless lifi is a wireless
communication technology which utilizes light to transmit data and position between devices.
The term was introduced by ‘harald hass’ during a tedglobal talk in edinburg.
LI-FI is generally ‘data through illumination’ -taking the fiber out of fiber optics by sending
data through an led bulb that varies in intesity faster than the human eye can follow.
The idea of li-fi is same as the infrared remote controls but far more powerful .
INTRODUCTION

It uses light instead of radio waves to transfer information and instead of
modems ,LI-FI transceiver-fitted led lamps that can light a room as well as
transmit and receive information.
This technology uses a part of the electromagnetic spectrum that is still not greatly
utilized-the visible spectrum.
It is possible to encode data in the light by varying the rate at which the led flicker
on and off to give different strings of 1’s and 0’s.
The speed or the band-width of the li-fi can be altered with increase in the
frequency of led bulb.
The change in frequency can be achieved by using different colours in led.
HOW IT WORKS?

 Li-fi is typically implemented using white led light bulbs at a downlink

transmitter.
 These devices are normally used for illumination only by applying constant
current.
 The property of optical current is used in li-fi setup.
 The operational procedure is very simple –if the led is on,you transmit a digit
1,if it’s off , you transmit a 0.
 The led can be switched off and on quickly, which gives nice oppurtunities for
transmitting data.
 Further enhancements can be made in this method, like using an array of led’s
for parallel data transmission.
THE VISIBILITY LIGHT
SPECTRUM
In contrast to using radiowaves, lifi makes use of visible light.
This allows lifi to have access to a greater range of available frequencies as the visible light
spectrum is 10,000 times larger than the entire radio spectrum.
The visble light spectrum covers frequencies from 4,30,000 – 7,70,000 ghz and colours from
near uv – near ir.
LI-FI VS WI-FI
PARAMETER LI-FI WI-FI

Spectrum used Visible light Radiowaves

Standard IEEE 802.15.7 IEEE 802.11

Range Based on light Based on radio propagation

intensity(<10m) interference(<300m)
Data tranfer rate Very high(~1Gbps) Low(100Mbms-1Gbps)

Power consumption Low High

Cost Low High

ADVANTAGES OF LI-FI

The biggest benefit of li-fi is efficiency.

Fast connectivity
Less environmental damage.
An unstoppable signal
Its not harmful technology
So, it is completely secured.
DISADVANTAGES OF LI-FI

Most devices that we use now still use hardware for wi-fi.
Reliance on light for communication.
Light can’t pass through objects.
LI-FI technology is limited range
It relies on light to transmit data, it becomes highly suspectible to
outside interference.
LI-FI is how the receving device will transmit back to transmitter
CONCLUSIONS
A different mind-set needs to be adopted and look at the pieces of technology(wi-fi & li-fi)
in a different way.

A big misconception about li-fi systems is thst it was created to replace wi-fi altogether.

It would be a very costly and tendious to replace all of that infrastucture to give a way to a
newer technology considering that most of the existing infrasture has already been built to
accommodate rf technology.

Li-fi needs to be looked as a technology that aims to improve the performance of the
existing technology.
