The DepEd’s mission is to protect and
promote the right of every Filipino to quality,
equitable, culture-based and complete basic
education. One of the vehicles of DepEd in
carrying out this mission is the K-to-12
program where no child should be left
behind.
It is stated in DepEd Memorandum
117, S. 2005 that Strategic Intervention
Materials are materials prescribed by
the Department of Education to improve
the students' performance in English.

Based on research, Strategic

Intervention Material is used in classes
remediation to give focus on developing
the least mastered skills of the learners
as identified in the pretest mean scores.

What is SIM?
SIM
• An instructional materials meant to reteach
concepts and skills

• Materials given to learners to help them master a

competency-based skill which they were not able
to develop during the regular classroom teaching
(with minimal intervention or guide of teacher)
SIM
DepEd Memorandum No. 117 s. 2005,
"Strategic Intervention Materials (SIM) Training
Workshop for Successful Learning," paved the
way for teachers to develop and use SIM in
classrooms. Individual needs are addressed by
instructions and interventions.
Is SIM just another name
for Module?

If not, what's the

difference?
Sometimes S.I.M. mistakenly defined as a
module. They have different purpose and use.
Module differs in a way that the S.I.M focuses
only on the particular competency intended
for remediation while Module contains
different competencies in a chapter intended
for regular classroom teaching.

• They are designed to address gaps in students'

learning by focusing on specific areas of need.
