Drawing #07 Report Objective: Constraints

The document discusses parametric drawing using geometric and dimensional constraints. Geometric constraints control the relationships between 2D objects relative to each other, while dimensional constraints control object sizes and proportions. Common geometric constraints include coincident, horizontal, vertical and parallel, while dimensional constraints can specify distances, angles, and radii. Parameters can be edited and organized in the Parameters Manager to efficiently make design changes using constraints.

Drawing #07 report

Objective:
Understand 2D commands and practice an isometric drawing

Constraints
They are the associations and restrictions applied to 2D geometry and its components relative
to an environment.

Parametric drawing
Parametric drawing is a technology that is used for designing with constraints, which are
associations and restrictions applied to 2D geometry.
There are two general types of constraints:
 Geometric constraints control the relationships of objects with respect to each other
 Dimensional constraints control the distance, length, angle, and radius values of
objects.

With constraints you can:

 Include formulas and equations within dimensional
constraints.
 Maintain design requirements and specifications by constraining the geometry within
a drawing.
 Instantly apply multiple geometric constraints to objects.
 Change the value of a variable to make design changes quickly

The Parameters Manager lists dimensional constraint parameters, reference parameters, and
user variables that you can use to create, edit, and organize.  You can easily create, modify,
and delete parameters from the Parameters Manager.  Within the Parameters Manager, you
scan:

 Click on the name of a dimensional constraint parameter to highlight the constraint in

the drawing.
 Double-click a name or expression to edit it.
 Right-click and then click Delete to remove a dimensional constraint parameter or
user variable.
 Click a column heading to sort the list of parameters by name, expression, or value.
Geometric Constraints

Geometric constraints are used to determine the relationships between 2D geometric objects
or points on objects relative to each other.  When the constrained geometry is edited, the
constraints are maintained.  Therefore, you have a method of including design requirements
in your drawing by using geometric constraints.

Geometric Constraints contains of,

 Controls for Coincident (with other object points)
 Fix (to an absolute location)
 Horizontal
 Vertical
 Concentric
 Tangent
 Parallel
 Perpendicular
 Collinear
 Smooth (join splines),
 Equal, and Symmetric (matches characteristics about an axis).

Dimensional Constraints

Dimensional constraints control the size and proportions of a design. They can constrain the
following:

 Distances between objects, or between points on objects

 Angles between objects, or between points on objects
 Sizes of arcs and circles
If the value of a dimensional constraint is changed, all the constraints that are in the object are
evaluated.  The affected objects are automatically updated.  You can also add constraints
directly to segments within a polyline as if the objects were separate.
The available dimensional constraints mirror the regular dimensions closely:
 Horizontal
 Vertical
 Aligned
 Radius
 Diameter
 Angle
