Constant Pressure Process

The document discusses processes involving steam and defines key terms used in analyzing them. It outlines the equations for non-flow and steady-flow processes, including that for a constant pressure process the work is equal to pressure times change in volume. It then provides an example problem where steam in a piston cylinder device is heated at constant pressure from 0.18 m3 to 300°C, calculating the heat transfer and work as 565 kJ and 80 kJ respectively.

𝒉 = 𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒆 𝒊𝒏 𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒍𝒑𝒚
𝑸 = 𝒉𝒆𝒂𝒕
𝒔 = 𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒆 𝒊𝒏 𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒓𝒐𝒑𝒚
𝒗 = 𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒆 𝒊𝒏 𝒔𝒑𝒆𝒄𝒊𝒇𝒊𝒄 𝒗𝒐𝒍.
Note: Note:
For non-flow equation, For steady-flow equation,
𝑸 = 𝑾𝒏 + ∆𝑼 𝑸 = 𝑾𝑺 + ∆𝒉
𝑾𝒏 = 𝑷𝒅𝒗 = 𝑷 𝒗𝟐 − 𝒗𝟏 𝑾𝑺 = 𝒗𝒅𝒑 = 𝒗 𝑷𝟐 − 𝑷𝟏
∆𝑼 = 𝑼𝟐 − 𝑼𝟏 ∆𝒉 = 𝒉𝟐 − 𝒉𝟏

Assuming:
Point 1 is wet- steam
Point 2 is superheated vapor
1. Steam is contained in a piston and cylinder device with
a free-floating piston. Initially, the steam occupies
a volume of 0.18 m3 at a pressure of 500 kPa.
The steam is slowly heated until the temperature is 300oC,
while the pressure remains constant. If
the cylinder contains 0.65 kg of steam, determine the heat
transfer and the work in kJ for this process.
Answer= W=80 KJ and Q=565 KJ
2. A boiler is producing steam at a pressure of 15 bars and
quality as 0.98 dry. It was observed that while flowing from
boiler to the place of heating through pipes, steam looses 20 kJ
of heat per kg. Assuming the constant pressure, while flowing
through pipe line, calculate the quality of steam at the place of
heating.
X= 0.97
