Before the start of the class ask the students to take out their notebooks, and
different so allow them to either use one page per vocab word or to create a sort of
glossary with all their vocab words. Direct them to include a drawing with each
landform, to have the visual aspect associated with the new words.
Introduce the subject by recounting and discussing interesting facts about the
Earth with the students. Landforms are the various physical features that can be
should be discussed. Landforms, for example, have an impact on where people live
and how they create their communities. Landforms such as mountains are
frequently used to build travel routes. Make a copy of the definition your class
comes up with and post it somewhere where all students can see it. In their
notebooks, have students write down the vocabulary word landform as well as the
definition.
Here is an example of how you should introduce the Landforms and how it
your students that mountains are the tallest landform on Earth's surface, with steep
slopes covered in snow or gentle slopes with a rounded summit. Explain that a
mountain range is a collection of mountains. Show your kids a picture of a hill and
explain that hills are raised sections of land. Explain in depth that plateaus are
Show them a map of the plains, explaining that these are enormous swaths
of flat ground. Remind your students that valleys are low areas that lie between
two mountains or hills, and that rivers or glaciers typically form them.
The important part of this lesson is ensuring your students grasp and
understand the new knowledge you are giving them, which is why it's important
that when you are introducing the landforms and this new information that you
were repeating yourself multiple times and make the connections with any
background knowledge they may have as well as connecting at the things around
them in their community so that when they are outside of the classroom they can
Evaluation: At the end of the lesson go around and check every student personal
vocabulary pages and their drawings, the teacher could also ask them to show a
specific vocab word and have the student point in the dictionary to see how much
information they grasped during the lesson. If a student is still struggling after the
lesson just put them in a small group and have students discuss the new words they
have learned.
