Introduction-
Check list are used for identifying whether
key task in a procedure, process, or activity have been
completed.
-A check list items task description in one Colum and
provide a space beside each item in a second column
to check off the completion of the task.

A check list is a tool for identifying the presence or
absence of conceptual knowledge, skill, or behavior.

A Check list is a list of response categories that
respondents check if appropriate.
Purpose of check list-
*Check list are occasionally useful for descriptive
purpose.
*The main purpose of checklist is to call attention to
various aspects of an object or situation, to see that
nothing of importance is overlooked.
*Response to the checklist items are largely a matter of
fact not of judgment. It is an important tool in
gathering facts for educational surveys.
Characteristic of checklist-
Checklist should-
Have criteria for success based on expected
outcomes.
Be short enough to be practical (eg-one
sheet of paper.)
Have task checked into logical section or flow
from short to finish.
Highlight criteria task.
Have sing-off point that prevent students
from proceeding without approval if needed.
Clearly specify the characteristic of behavior
to be observed.
Used only carefully prepared checklist to
avoid more complex traits.
The observer should be trained how to
observer, what to observed behavior.
Use checklist only when you are interested in
calculating a particular characteristic.
Uses of checklist-
*To collects acts for educational surveys.
*To record behavior in observational studies.
*To use in educational appraisal, studies of
school building properly, plan, textbook,
instructional procedure and outcomes.
*To rate the personality.
*To know the interest of the subject.
*To contain a list of behavior or specify,
steps, which can be marked as present
/absent, complete / incomplete etc.
*A teacher can use a check list to observe
the students.
*Students use checklist to ensure that they
have complete or of the steps and
considered all of the possibilities.
MERITS OF CHECKLIST-
Students can measure their own behavior
with the help of checklist.
Easy simple to use and frame the tools.
Wanted and unwanted can be checked.
Personal -social development can be
checked.
Save time and brain power.
Make delegating easier.
Reach your goal quicker.
It provide simple method to
record .observation.
It Is useful to evaluating learning activities.
Properly prepared it allow the observer to
contain the direct attention.
Useful for evaluating these process that can
be subdivided into a series of action.
Decrease the chances of error in observation
especially error of leniency hence no rating
or degree of performance is observed.
DEMERITS OF CHECKLIST-
In many situation summative, scoring ,and
interpretation of score will be difficult.
Does not indicate quality or degree of
performance so usefulness of checklist if
limited.
It has a limited use in qualitative research
studies.
Teacher find it difficult to adapt teaching and
evaluation behavior to include checklist.
If there are too many checklist the teacher
can be overwhelmed with assessment and
record keeping.
Teacher may not consider assessment with
checklist as valid measure.
Checklist do not indicate how well a child
performs.
It is difficult to make actual ranking for
employee.
Standard may be unclear.
The check list may be biased by the recorder.
The checklist may have many items for to
check making it time consuming.
Can Couse disagreements among
employees and may be unfair if all
employees are in fact excellent.
