water drainage and distribution networks.
Desalination Plants
The abundance of available seawater
in the Gulf helps to fulfill water needs.
through desalination plants for the
region. With the Middle East making
up the majority of desalination plants
globally, KEO offers valuable experience
and know-how, relating to engineering
design services and associated civil and
infrastructure works for major desalination
plants,
Municipal Infrastructure
As part of the ongoing development for
water distribution systems and necessary
water infrastructure, KEO has been
engaged on vital municipal infrastructure
projects for our capabilities in design,
supply, constructions, testing for municipal
and commissioning services.Mesaieed Treatment Plant, Mesaieed, Qatar

for the wastewater treatment plant and associated
‘works at Mesaieed, Qatar. In total there are 3 raw
sewage pumping stations, trunk sewers, rising
mains, temporary raw sewage holding tanks, fiber
optic SCADA network, and TSE discharge pipelines
servicing the entire Mesaieed Industrial City, KEO.
scope alto includes verifying the concept design
and conducting detailed design of all engineering
disciplines for the project. Numerous reports including
a design basis memorandum and a solids handling
feasibility report are to be generated for the project.
The treatment plant is based on the activated sludge
treatment process.Aridya WWTP, Kuwait
KEO prepared a study for design improvement and
expansion of the existing Ardiya Waste Water Treatment
Plant in Kuwait to increase its capacity from 200,000 m3 per
day, to 250,000 m3 per day in order to meet the growing
population demands of the service area. In addition, the
improvements include the upgrading of several mechanical
facilities in line with the plant's increased capacity
‘These upgrades included a new de-gritter, aeration tanks,
diffused air system, modifications to the return sludge and
hydraulic systems.Al Aweer STP Expansion, Dubai, UAE
KEO was commissioned by Dubai Municipality to carry out an assessment
for the partly-constructed and completed structures associated with the Al
Aweer Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) extension. KEO were then appointed
at site for Supervision and Infrastructure Engineering services, in order to
complete the sewerage treatment plant as originally designed.
Due to rapid population expansion in Dubai, wastewater flows exceeded
the plant’s design capacity of 260,000 m3/day. In order to reduce the
pressure on the existing Al Aweer facility ancl ensure that the facility
‘continues to provide the same high degree of treatment that it does
currently, the Dubai Municipality Drainage and Irrigation Department
tendered this project for the provision of engineering, procurement and
‘construction services on a Design and Build basis for the DS-167 extension
of Al Aweer STP with total capacity of 65,000 m3/d.
‘The scope of the project comprises the design, construction, and
‘commissioning of the extension of Al Aweer Sewage Treatment Plant. It
also involves undertaking defects liability and decennial liability on the
proposed structures and the existing and proposed equipment, and any
modifications of the existing STP.Sulaibiya Wastewater
Treatment Plant, Kuwait
KEO provided detail design services and
project management services for one of
the largest waste water treatment plants
ever implemented by the private sector.
This project was achieved using a build,
operate and transfer (BOT) method,
providing an opportunity for the private
sector to participate in public utility
Projects
The facility incorporates the most
advanced technology available for
treatment of wastewater that meets World
Health Organization (WHO) standards
‘for potable water, This is achieved by the
Use of a conventional biological process
to produce secondary effluent, followed
by Ultra Filtration (UF), Reverse Osmosis
(RO) and chlorination to produce the final
effluent. Ths i the largest scale use of
this technology for domestic wastewater
reclamation to date. The resulting water
is sold to the government of Kuwait for
beneficial reuse inirigation and other
environmentally supportive functions
‘The plant intially was capable of treating
375,000 m3/day and has expanded to
treat up to 600,000 m3/day. The project
includes three major components; a
preliminary treatment and pumping
station at Ardiya, a series of transfer
pipelines between Ardiya pumping
station and Sulaibiya Plant, and a
wastewater treatment and reclamation
plant at Sulaibiya,Southern Tehran WWTP, Tehran, Iran
In 2001 the Tehran Sewerage
Company commissioned ILF,
together with *s partner offices
KEO (Kuwait) and Parsconsult
(Iran), to carry out the large-
scale wastewater project
“Southern Tehran WWTP* fora
design capacity of 2.1 milion
PE (Ist stage) and 450,000 m*
wastewater per day.
Greater Tehran with a population
of about 15 million does not have
a working sewerage system and
no large wastewater treatment
plants to date. As a consequence,
‘there are serious environmental
and health problems in the
southern part of the city where
untreated wastewater is used for
irrigation purposes
That is why the city of Tehran
decided to launch the "Tehran
Sewerage Project” The project
encompasses the construction
of several large-scale wastewater
‘treatment plants and a sewerage
system which shall serve all of
greater Tehran. The WWTP was
conceived to permit the treated
wastewater to be used without
restrictions for agricultural
purposes. The rapid development
of the city, marked population
growth and the ensuing increase
of water consumption has led
to an intense conflct in water
utilisation with agriculture over
the shrinking waterresources.
Wastewater reclamation will
mitigate this conflictWestern Region Sewage Program,
‘Abu Dhabi, UAE
KEO has been under contract to provide studies,
designs, construction supervision and operation
and maintenance services for the Western
Region Sewerage Project (WRSP) in the Emirate
of Abu Dhabi. The project involves the design,

Doha city area, The new plant at Doha South has a
peak flow capacity of some 440,000 m3/day and
will service areas to the north of Doha, which have
seen substantial population growth over the past
few years. Doha South WWTW has also witnessed
2 significant increase in inflow as a result of the
substantial economic growth of the area. In 2009, a
sequencing batch reactor plant (SBR) was completed
and provided an additional 70,000m3 of treatment
capacity to the existing plant (Phase 1 development)
Due to the further unforeseen growth in population,
itis now necessary to increase this by implementing
Phase 2 of the development.
Phase 2 provides an additional treatment capacity
of 110,000 m3/day by means of SBR’s together with
modifications and additions to the inlet works, TSE
balancing tanks, ultrafiltration plant, storm water/
effluent lagoons, aerobic digesters, dewatering
facilities, buildings and site works, The works are
being undertaken as a design/build project with KEO
providing design review, project management and,
construction supervision services.New Darsait STP, Muscat, Oman
The New Darsait Sewage Treatment Plant is a major new
