Procedure to design the given
Geometry is as —
Step 1. Open the Ansys Workbench and select the option of Static Structural.
Step 2. Choose a suitable name for the project and write it at the bottom of the table.
Step 3. Click on the option of Select Material from the table and select the material as per our
requirement .
Step 4. Now, go to the geometry option of the table . A new window of geometry will open.
Procedure to design the given
Geometry is as —
Step 5. Now, draw a 2D sketch of the component with required dimensions.
Step 6. Now, use the “Pull” feature to convert the sketch into 3D.
Step 7. Select the model option from the table. A new window for model will open.
Step 8. You can see that the figure of geometry tab will appear in this tab also.
Step 9. Now, create the mess over the entire geometry using mess and generate
option.
Procedure to design the given
Geometry is as —
Step 10. Now, we can apply the external effects on the given model of the
component like forces, torque or moments and others at any particular location of
the component by selecting the elements of the created mess or faces as per the
problem statement.
Step 11. After that, select the different parameters that you required in your
solution statement and click on generate option.
Step 12. You can see the the values and effects of that parameters on the given
model.
Now, Follow the diagrams on the slides to
execute the above procedure for solving the
geometrical problem and getting its results-
Calculation of Stress Concentration Factor-
= 11.88 x 10^9
Ensure that the input data for your simulation, including geometry and material properties, is accurate. Small errors in these
parameters can lead to significant discrepancies in results.
2.Mesh Quality:
Check the quality of your mesh. A coarse or poorly refined mesh might not capture the details needed for accurate stress
concentration calculations. Refine the mesh in critical regions, especially around areas with geometric changes.
3.Solver Settings:
Verify the settings in your ANSYS solver. Adjust convergence criteria and solution controls if needed. Sometimes, changing
the solver type or using more advanced solver options can resolve convergence issues.
4.Boundary Conditions:
Ensure that your boundary conditions are correctly applied. Incorrect constraints or loads can lead to unexpected results.
Inference-
1. The software analysis validates the effectiveness of the chosen method for
determining stress concentration factors. If the results closely align with established
theoretical values or experimental data from literature, it suggests the reliability of the
software in simulating stress concentration phenomena.
2. Observations reveal that the stress concentration factor is highly influenced by the
geometry of the tested specimen. Irregularities, such as notches, holes, or changes in
cross-sectional area, significantly impact stress distribution.
3. The experiment provides insights into how different materials respond to stress
concentration. Variations in material properties, such as modulus of elasticity and yield
strength, influence the stress concentration factor. This information is crucial for
materials selection and structural design.
