1. This paper consists of sections A, B and C with a total of ten (10) questions.
2. Answer all questions in each section.
3. Section A and C carry fifteen (15) marks each and section B carries Seventy (70) marks.
4. All answers must be written in the spaces provided.
5. All writings must be in blue or black ink except drawings which must be in pencil.
6. All communication devices, calculators and any unauthorized materials are not allowed in the

3. (a) Explain why a ship floats while the coin sinks in a sea water. Three (03) points

(b) A uniform half meter rule is freely pivoted at 15cm mark and balances horizontally
when a body of mass of 40g is hung from a 2cm mark.
(i) Draw a clearly labelled diagram to illustrate the forces on a half metre rule.
(iii) If the Vernier Calliper used to measure/record the thickness and width of half
meter rule which are 2cm and 4cm respectively, determine the density of

8. (a) (i) An electrical engineer was asking himself about the factors affecting
resistance of a conductor. As a form two student help him (4 points)
(ii) A current of 0.25A flows through a circuit of voltage 10V across a bulb.
What is the resistance of the bulb?
(b) During physics practical session. Hosama a form two student at Mwembechai
Secondary school was given by Physics teacher the following resistances 5Ω, 10Ω
and 20Ω. What are minimum and maximum resistances obtained by connecting those
resistors?

(ii) A car starts from rest and accelerates uniformly at a rate of 4m/s2 for 5
seconds. It maintains a constant velocity for 20 seconds. The brakes are then
applied, and the car decelerates for 3 seconds. Find the maximum velocity
attained and the total distance covered.

(b) A 3kg hammer is used to drive a nail into a piece of wood. If at the time of impact,
