Basic Chess Rules

1. Starting the Game:

○ The game starts with two players.
○ One player has white pieces, and the other has black pieces.
○ The player with the white pieces always moves first.
2. The Board:
○ The chessboard has 64 squares, arranged in 8 rows and 8 columns.
○ Each player starts with 16 pieces: 1 king, 1 queen, 2 rooks, 2 knights, 2 bishops,
and 8 pawns.
3. Moving Pieces:
○ The king can move one square in any direction.
○ The queen can move in any direction (vertically, horizontally, or diagonally).
○ The rook moves in a straight line, either horizontally or vertically.
○ The bishop moves diagonally, as many squares as possible.
○ The knight moves in an "L" shape (two squares in one direction, then one
square to the side).
○ The pawn moves forward one square but captures diagonally.
4. Objective of the Game:
○ The goal of the game is to checkmate your opponent's king. This means
trapping the king so it can't move without being captured.
5. Capturing Pieces:
○ You can capture your opponent's pieces by moving to a square where their piece
is located. The captured piece is removed from the board.
6. Check and Checkmate:
○ If your king is under attack, it is in check. You must move your king out of check.
○ If there is no way to move the king and it is still under attack, this is called
checkmate, and the game is over.
7. Special Moves:
○ Castling: The king and one rook can switch places in a special move if neither
has moved yet and no pieces are between them.
○ En passant: A pawn can capture another pawn that just moved two squares
forward from its starting position.
