Định nghĩa câu ghép trong Tiếng Anh

Câu ghép trong Tiếng Anh, hay còn gọi là Compound sentence, là khi kết hợp hai mệnh
đề độc lập trở lên trong một câu. Các mệnh đề này được nối với nhau thông qua trạng
từ liên kết, liên từ và các dấu câu như dấu phẩy, chấm phẩy.

Đặc điểm của câu ghép là mỗi mệnh đề trong câu là hoàn toàn độc lập với nhau. Điều
này có nghĩa là chúng có thể tách rời để tạo thành các câu đơn mà không ảnh hưởng
đến ý nghĩa của cả câu ghép.

Các mệnh đề này có thể được nối với nhau bởi dấu chấm phẩy [ ; ]
(semicolon), hoặc bởi dấu phẩy [ , ] (comma) và một liên từ(conjunction).

Sử dụng dấu chấm phẩy


Dấu chấm phẩy (;) có thể được dùng để nối các mệnh đề độc lập mà không cần liên
từ.

Ví dụ:

 I wanted to go for a walk; it was raining. (Tôi muốn đi bộ; trời đang mưa)
 She loves reading; she also enjoys writing. (Cô ấy thích đọc sách; cô ấy cũng thích viết)
Sử dụng dấu chấm phẩy và liên từ chuyển tiếp
Để tạo câu ghép sử dụng trạng từ liên kết (conjunctive adverbs), ta sẽ nối hai mệnh đề
độc lập với nhau. Trạng từ liên kết thường đi kèm với dấu chấm phẩy (;) trước nó và
dấu phẩy (,) sau nó.

Một số trạng từ liên kết phổ biến:

 However (tuy nhiên)


 Therefore (do đó)
 Moreover (hơn nữa)
 Consequently (kết quả là)
 Furthermore (hơn nữa)
 Nevertheless (tuy nhiên)

However: I wanted to go for a walk; however, it was raining. (Tôi muốn đi dạo; tuy
nhiên, trời đang mưa)

Therefore: He studied very hard for the exam; therefore, he passed with high marks.
(Anh ấy học rất chăm cho kì thi; vậy nên, anh ấy đạt điểm rất cao)
