Living things have characteristic traits that make them different from non-living things.
Reproduction is the process by which living things , such as plants and animals,
produce their own kind. Human mothers give birth to live young ones, just like female dogs,
cats ,pigs and dolphins. Other animals like birds , frogs and fishes lay eggs.
Plants reproduce differently. They do not give birth or lay eggs. They grow from
seeds. Seeds grow into plants when placed in a suitable place. Some plants grow using
some of its parts like stem or leaf like gumamela and katakataka plant.
Traits are characteristics that can be observed in the living things. When living things
reproduce, they pass on traits to their offspring. Do you wonder why you look like your moth-
er or father or your siblings? It is because you inherit some traits from your parents. It could
be the color of your skin, hair or eyes. Same as with the animals. Traits were passed on to
their offsprings such as the body size, the color of the skin and also some of their move-
ments.
How about plant? Plants share some common traits. However, one plant may differ
from another plant, too. Characteristics of plants include shape and size of leaves, size and
number of seeds in the fruit, and color and scent of the flowers.
