11) Determine the general term of an AP whose 7th term is -1 and 16th term is 17.
Answer : Let a be the first term and d be the common difference of the AP, whose 7th term is -1 and 16th
term is 17.
Thus, a7 = −1 and a1 6 = 17
⇒ a + (7 - 1) d = -1 [∵ an = a + (n − 1)d]
⇒ a + 6d =- 1 ...(i)
and a + ( 16 - 1 )d = 17
⇒ a + 15d = 17 ...(ii)
On solving Eqs. (i) and (ii),
we get a = -1 3 and d = 2
Hence, general term an = a + ( n - d )

Answer : Numbers between 100 and 200 are 101, 102, .... 199
a = 101, d = 1, an = 199
∴ an = a + ( n - 1 )d

15) A round table cover has six equal designs as shown in the figure. If the radius of the cover is 28 cm, find the
2
cost of making the designs at the rate of Rs. 0.35 per cm . (U se √3 = 1.7)
Answer :
= 464.8 cm2
Cost of making 1 cm2 designs = Rs 0.35
Cost of making 464.76 cm2 designs = 464.8 x 0.35 = Rs 162.68
Therefore, the cost of making such designs is Rs 162.68.
16) A solid toy is in the form of a hemisphere surmounted by a right circular cone. The height of the cone is 3 cm
and the diameter of the base is 4 cm. Determine the volume of the solid toy. If a right circular cylinder
circumscribes the toy, then find the difference of the volumes of the cylinder and the toy [take, π = 3.14]
Answer : Here, given solid toy is a combination of a right circular cone and a hemisphere.
Let BPC be the hemisphere and ABC be the cone standing on the base of the hemisphere as shown 'in the
figure.
For conical portion,
Height, h = 3 cm
Diameter, d = 4 cm
4
∴ Radius, r = cm = 2 cm
2
2 3 1 2
= × 3.14 × (2) + × 3.14 × (2) × 3
3 3
3
= 16.75 + 12.56 = 29.31 cm
Hence, volume of the solid toy is 29.31 cm3.
Now, let the right circular cylinder EFGH circumscribe the given solid toy. Then, radius of the base of the
right circular cylinder = HP = BO = 2 cm and its height, EH = AP = AO + OP = 3 + 2 = 5 cm
So, volume of the cylinder = πr h = 3.14 x 22 x 5 = 62.8 cm3
2
Now, required difference of the volume of the cylinder and the solid toy = Volume of cylinder - Volume of
solid toy
= 62.8 - 29.31 = 33.49 cm3
