This paper is divided into four sections – A, B, C and D.
Answer all questions.
Section A consists of one question having sub-parts of one mark each.
Section B consists of seven questions of two marks each.
Section C consists of nine questions of three marks each, and
Section D consists of three questions of five marks each.
Internal choices have been provided in two questions each in Section B,
Section C and Section D.
The intended marks for questions are given in brackets [ ].
All working, including rough work, should be done on the same sheet as and adjacent to the rest
of the answer.
Answers to sub parts of the same question must be given in one place only. A list of useful
physical constants is given at the end of this paper.
A simple scientific calculator without a programmable memory may be used for calculations.

The susceptibility of a magnetic material is 0.9853. Identify the type of magnetic material. Draw the

(i) Name the laws which give a quantitative expression of the statement 'time dependent
electric and magnetic fields give rise to each other.
(ii) What is an instantaneous rate of change of voltage for displacement current of 10A in space
between the parallel plate of 1μF capacitor?

Find the binding energy per nucleon of 20Ca40 nucleus. Given, m (20Ca40) = 39.962589 u, m = 1.008665
u and mn = 1.007825u. Take, 1 amu = 931 MeV/c².

A beam of light whose wavelength is 400 Å is diffracted by a single slit of width 0.2 mm. Give the
angular position of the second minima.

(i) Two identical circular loops P and Q each of radius r and carrying equal currents are kept in
the parallel planes having a common axis passing through O. The direction of current in P is
clockwise and in Qis anti-clockwise as seen from O, which is equidistant from the loops P
and Q. Find the magnitude of the net magnetic field at O.

(ii) Find the ratio of the magnitudes of the magnetic field of the centre and at an axial point at a
distance 2a from the centre of the circular coil of radius a.

(i) A ray of light suffers minimum deviation, while passing through a prism of refractive index
1.5 and refracting angle 60°. Calculate the angle of deviation and angle of incidence.

Force on a charge due to electric field is given by FE = qE and force due magnetic field is given by FB
= q (v × B). In a certain region of space, both electric and magnetic fields exist mutually perpendicular
to each other. If an electron enters this region perpendicular to both E and B and passes out
undeflected, find the velocity of the electron.

(i) A wire of resistivity ρ₁ is plated with a material of resistivity ρ₂, so that its radius changes from r to

(ii) Two conducting wires of the same material having radii in the ratio 2: 3 and lengths in the ratio 1: 2
are connected in series with an accumulator. Find the ratio of potential difference across the two
conducting wires.

(i) For the same angle of incidence, the angles of refraction in three different media P, Q and R
are 17°, 27° and 37° respectively. In which medium will the velocity of light be minimum?
(ii) Calculate the speed of light in a medium, whose critical angle is 45°.

Find the ratio of the intensity at the centre of a bright fringe to the intensity at a point one quarter of the
distance between two fringes from the centre.

Mention the important considerations required while fabricating a p-n junction diode to be used as a
Light Emitting Diode (LED). What should be the order of band gap of an LED, if it is required to emit
light in the visible range?

A student is finding the focal length of a concave lens, using a convex lens. The examiner gives the
following instructions to the student. State whether the responses of the student in each case are correct
or incorrect. Give a reason for your answer.
(i) EXAMINER It does not have point image. Form a point image.
STUDENT Uses the convex lens of small aperture to form a point image.
(ii) EXAMINER The focal length of convex lens is large. Decrease its focal length.
STUDENT Uses the convex lens of high power.
(iii) EXAMINER Image is blurred and indistinct. Improve the quality of image.
STUDENT Move the convex lens closer to the concave lens.
SECTION D – 15 MARKS

(i) Two convex lenses of powers P1 and P₂ are kept in contact with each other. When this
combination is used for image formation of an object, find the combined power of
combination.
(ii) If both combined lenses are concave and convex of same power, then find the nature of
combination.
(iii) Two thin lenses are in contact and the focal length of the combination is 80cm. If the focal
length of one lens is 20 cm, then what would be the power of another lens?

(i) A metallic rod of length l is moved perpendicular to its length with velocity v in a magnetic
field B acting perpendicular to the plane in which rod moves. Derive the expression for the
induced emf.
(ii) A wire of length 0.3 m moves with a speed of 20 m/s perpendicular to the magnetic field of
induction 1 Wb/m². Calculate the induced emf.

Read the passage given below and answer the questions that follow.
Potential difference (∆V) between two points A and B separated by a distance x, in a uniform electric
field E is given by ∆V = - Ex, where x is measured parallel to the field lines. If a charge q 0 moves from
A to B, the change in potential energy (∆U) is given as ∆U = q 0∆V. A proton is released from rest in
uniform electric field of magnitude 8.0 × 104 V/m directed along the positive X-axis.
