Basic Rules of Antiderivative

The document provides an overview of antiderivatives, also known as indefinite integrals, and explains the process of antidifferentiation as the inverse of differentiation. It outlines key objectives, basic integration formulas, and the importance of including an arbitrary constant 'c' in antiderivatives. Additionally, it presents examples and practice problems related to antiderivatives of power functions and constants.

ANTIDERIVATIVES

Antiderivative of functions is also known as integral.

Integration is the opposite process of differentiation and hence the name "anti" derivatives.

Antiderivatives are usually known as indefinite integrals

OBJECTIVES
This session aims to:
❑ Define and illustrate antidifferentiation
❑ Enumerate and illustrate the basic integration
formulas for the power functions; and
❑ Evaluate integrals involving power formulas

3
One of the most important thing that you
need to remember in this subject.
- adding the arbitrary constant c upon getting
the antiderivative.

+C

4
Antidifferentiation
- is the inverse process of differentiation (or
getting the derivative).
- Also called as the process of integration –
for it involves summing up.

5
DO NOT FORGET THE +c
Find the derivative of the following functions
1. f(x) = 𝑥 2 + 3𝑥 + 1
2. g(x) = 𝑥 2 + 3𝑥 − 7
3. h(x) = 𝑥 2 + 3𝑥 + 99999999999999999

then , it will become:

1. f(x) = 2x + 3
2. f(x) = 2x + 3
3. f(x) = 2x + 3
Therefore, if we will be going back to the original function by
getting antiderivaties of f’(x), g’(x) and h’(x), we will not know
what are the exact values of constant. 6
