Troubleshooting Test Steps Results
1. Check for Codes
Result:A related diagnostic code is present.
A. Connect Cat® ET to the truck. Troubleshoot any related codes before continuing with this
procedure.
B. Determine how many E1258 events codes have occurred and when the last
event occurred. Result: E1258 code remains present.
Proceed to Test Step 2.
C. Check and address any related diagnostic codes.
Result: E1258 code does not return.
D. Clear the E1258 event and operate the truck in the same manner as when STOP
the event was triggered, to see if the event returns.

Result: No oil leakage in the OTG hydraulics.

Proceed to Test Step 3.
2. Inspect for Oil Leakage in OTG hydraulics.
Result: Oil leakage found in the OTG hydraulics.
Note: Check for internal leakage in the solenoid and relief valve due to the

orifice plug being loose.
If the problem is not resolved, proceed to Test Step 3.

3. Cycle the Key Switch

Result: E1258 code does not return.
Proceed to Test Step 4
Cycle power to the Chassis ECM by turning the key switch OFF and then ON

and the Interaxle Accumulator charge solenoid to operate again.
Proceed to Test Step 5.
Note: An active E1258 will make troubleshooting difficult.

Result: Interaxle accumulator pressure is low.

4. Monitor Interaxle Accumulator Pressure In Cat® ET
Proceed to Test Step 5.
A. Truck in "Park" and engine running at high idle
Result: Oil pressure is normal and E1258 is active.
Proceed to Test Step 5.
B. On Cat® ET status screen, select "Traction Control Solenoids" and monitor

out pressure of 4800 kPa (696 psi)

5. Check for a Stuck Interaxle Accumulator Charge Solenoid Result: Interaxle accumulator charge solenoid is OK.
Proceed to Test Step 6.
Check the operation of the 277-8863 Interaxle Accumulator Charge Solenoid
Valve. Result: A problem is found with the interaxle accumulator charge
solenoid. Perform any necessary repairs.
Make sure that the charge solenoid is "ON", when accumulator pressure drops Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, UENR0207, "Solenoid Valve
to 3700 kPa (537 psi) (cut-in) and "OFF" at cut-out pressure of 4800 kPa (Differential Lock) - Remove and Install" and Disassembly and

If solenoid is suspect, refer to Troubleshooting, "MID 087 - CID 3543 - FMI 05"
in this manual. If the problem is not resolved, proceed to Test Step 6.

Result: Approximately 45 seconds or more between charge
cycles indicates a good accumulator. (cycle times may be as
much as 2 to 3 minutes depending on conditions).

6. Check for a Failed Interaxle Differential Lock Accumulator 4800 kPa (696 psi)
Proceed to Test Step 7.
Inspect for excessive charge cycling in the interaxle differential lock hydraulic
circuit. Result: Charge cycle is less than 45 seconds. The accumulator
may be low on pre-charge. If recharge is needed, see the below

If the problem is not resolved, proceed to Test Step 7.

Result: Interaxle accumulator charge sensor is OK.
