Reasonable adjustments and special learning needs:

Australian School of Commerce works to ensure that students with recognized disadvantages
can access and participate in education and training on the same basis as other students.
Disadvantages may be based, for example, upon age, cultural background, physical disability,
limited or non-current industry experience, language, numeracy or digital literacy issues.
Where pre-training interviews and LLN assessments reveal that a student may require special
support or where, after enrolment, it is made apparent that the student requires special support,
reasonable adjustments will be made to the learning environment, training delivery, learning
resources and/or assessment tasks to accommodate the particular needs of the student. An
adjustment is reasonable if it can accommodate the student’s particular needs, while also
taking into account factors such as the student’s views, the potential effect of the adjustment
on the student and others and the costs and benefits of making the adjustment.

Any adjustments made must:

• be discussed, agreed and documented in the assessment record
• benefit the student
• maintain the integrity of the competency standards and course requirements as stipulated
in the training package
• be reasonable to expect in a workplace.

Reasonable adjustment may consist of:

• providing additional time for students to complete learning and assessment tasks
• presenting questions orally for students with literacy issues
• asking questions in a relevant practical context
• using large print material
• extending the course duration
• Presenting work instructions in diagrammatic or pictorial form instead of words and
sentences.

Complaints and appeals:

If you are dissatisfied with an assessment outcome, you may appeal the assessment decision. In
the first instance, you are encouraged to appeal informally by contacting the assessor and
discussing the matter with them. If you are dissatisfied with the outcome of such discussion, you
may appeal further to training manager. If you are still dissatisfied, you may appeal formally and
in writing to have the result reviewed. For more information, refer to the Assessment Policy and

Overview: Case study (For this assessment, Student can choose any other organisation,
which must be approved by your assessor.)

Project Name: Development of a new staff recruitment and selection process

Project Scope

ASOC is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) located in Melbourne’s CBD. With the
current rapid growth of student numbers, we will need to hire more trainers. To accomplish
this, we will advertise on job seeking websites and then conduct several rounds of interviews
for selection. But before this, we need to generate a new staff recruitment and selection
process. We expect to have the whole project completed within one month.

Lisa, ASOC Human Resources Manager, will be responsible for this project. In order to ensure
our selection process complies with the industry standard, we must first consult with industry
experts or conduct research on which qualifications are necessary for trainers in order to
avoid any legal or compliance issues. We should also check our current trainers’ profiles to
have a better understanding of what qualifications and experience will best match our
needs.

New staff members should have the knowledge and skills to be able to complete work that
has already been started and they should be able to help other team members when
necessary. This recruitment might also bring competition to the existing trainers if the
managers compare current employees’ performance with the new staff.
The overall expense for the project should be controlled within $2000.

Project Development Strategy

There might be other unsolved issues related to this project but we need to aim at generating
a new staff recruitment and selection process.

We will use Gantt chart to create a timeline for the project and then break down the whole
project into smaller tasks.

A regular update will be provided to all stakeholders in the proper format. A final report
should be created within 10 days after the project is completed with a presentation to the
CEO and management team.

The main risk that we may encounter during the project is if we make mistakes or are not
thorough enough during the selection process, it may be difficult to deal with the new
employee if they do not meet our expectations and can’t work effectively.

approved by your assessor.)

Overview

Imagine you (Andrew) are the owner of a café in Melbourne’s CBD with two other partners
named (Brian and Cathy). Due to the extremely high rent, you are no longer able to afford
to run the business, so you consult with an expert who will advise you on how to run the

affordable. You and your partners like the idea and decide to move to a new location, but
before moving you must prepare a report considering the points listed below.
1. Briefly introduce your project by defining the parameters/scope of the project,
including:
- Project name;
- Project period;
- Project objectives;
- Project stakeholders;
- Project budget; and
- Resource requirements and allocation.
2. Break down your project objectives by creating milestones and drawing a Gantt
chart to represent the following:
- Deliverables;
- Work breakdown;
- Budget and allocation of resources;
- Timelines;
- Risk management; and
- Recordkeeping and reporting.
3. Identify one (1) Work Health and Safety (WHS) related risk and create a risk
management matrix to record your strategies including responsibilities to manage
these risks.
4. Develop a project budget and discuss it with your partners(Assessor divides the class
into groups of 3) for approval.
5. Complete the project documentations template such as Project Plan template
(Appendix 2), Project budget approval template (Appendix 3) and Project
responsibilities template (Appendix 4) You must get these signed-off from your
