Business Case

Video games have become increasingly popular among adults as well as youths over
the last few decades. They've gone from being a disregarded part of society to
becoming a major industry. Psychologists are now incorporating therapy into games,
kids are more interested in learning through games and activities, and this has sparked
a new field of research into how games might improve key cognitive processes such
as focus and intelligence. Game developers went even further and used the internet to
satisfy our need to stay connected, giving gamers access to a whole new universe.
Due of the other individuals they have the opportunity to communicate with, people
can engage with various cultures and learn more about new areas without ever having
to go. With this level of interconnection comes the drive to compete.

My Project is to organize a gaming tournament for the youths in Ghana. The game to
be played will be “Call of Duty Mobile” multiplayer mode.

Statement of Work

”Squad Wipeout” will be a 3 day gaming tournament hosted in Academic City

University. 8 teams of 6 players each will be selected across the country to participate
in the tournament, the selection of teams will be done online by letting the registered
teams play a knockout stage to determine the teams to be selected. The prize pool of
the tournament will be $1000 which will be divided into the first, second and third
positions and other special awards. Motherland Gaming LLC, the leading name in E-
sports gaming events and streams in Ghana—with their critically acclaimed sponsored
gaming team, LION WRATH will be in charge of casting the tournament to viewers
on our various social media platforms. This will be a first of many quarterly events, and
we would like to request the support of Academic City University College to enable us to host
a first-of-its-kind event in Ghana.

Event registrations are going to start on 25th May 2022 and will close on 2nd June
2022. We will give Academic City teams two slots of automatic acceptance. The
registration will be on a first-come first-serve basis till we have 12 teams registered
and will close early so as to allow us enough time to cater for the teams. Teams that
live too far out of the venue might need some accommodation.
Participants are expected to arrive on Friday 24th June 2022, so they can be registered
and given a tour of our campus. Later that day, the first event will start; Free for All
Battle Royale which viewers and other people can partake in without being present at
the event premises. All other events will take place the next day and will require
participants to be present at the venue. Covid protocols will be observed during the
on-boarding process and the main event.

Most of the funding will be generated by mining cryptos but proposals will be sent
out to companies for them to come on board, this will be elaborated on further into the
document.
Scope Statement

Goal Criteria

The goal of this project is to connect the gaming community in Ghana for them to be
recognized and gain notice within and out of the country. After this tournament some
players will have the opportunity to be selected for official gaming tournaments and
teams thus creating job opportunities as well.

The budget for the project is 1500 dollars

The duration of the project will be from the 24th of May to the 31st of June.

This project will be sent to the various Acity officials for vetting and approvals.

We currently only have Academic City and Motherland Gaming as partners and will
need help getting the rest of the sponsors on board. Due to the embargo between the
US and China, prospects of having Huawei on board seem bleak for now. However,
for future events on other games, Huawei might be a strategic partner.
Benefit for Sponsors
While each organization might have its individual goals and operations, supporting an
emerging industry like Mobile Gaming in Ghana will provide common advantages for
every partner involved.
Firstly, sponsors are going to have the opportunity to increase their engagement with
consumers across all platforms - from mobile phones and tablets to personal
computers and consoles. Since the youth are the predominant users of these platforms,
access to a targeted, younger audience will clearly be guaranteed for every sponsor.
The youth are also ideally the backbone of every economy and getting them to
patronize a sponsoring company’s products and services passionately to friends and
family will prove a very effective advertisement strategy.
Aside this, the novel, innovative nature of esports will also be advantageous in many
specific ways to sponsors of different industries. The data-intensive environment of
the event, for instance, will serve as a great way for telecommunication companies to
showcase their capabilities as robust, reliable networks that customers can trust.
A company such as Nestle, known for their tagline as the ‘food-drink for future
champions’, will find that their philosophy ties in beautifully with the spirit of
competition and greatness that esports creates, and more young people will gladly sip
to beverages that to them embodies one of their favorite activities to do. Overall,
esports will provide a chance for sponsors to diversify their brand and win over new
customer segments, as well as increase the loyalty of existing customers, by tapping
into an aspect of people’s lives that most other companies haven’t even began to think
of exploiting.
Companies like Coca Cola, already sponsor Esports competitions outside Africa. It
seems if there can be a justifiable scenario of its emergence in Ghana, they will be
likely to support.
Kulaperry Group of Companies, creators of luxury Ghanaian streetwear
FEARNOMAN Clothing, have always sought new and innovative ways to support
youth initiatives while improving their brand image. They could for example, release
an NFT in a batch of clothes that hold the token to the winners of the competitions,
they could also easily sponsor advertisement deals for the winners or outstanding
players.
Twellium, makers of Rush Energy Drink, would benefit greatly as all breaks within
the tournament could be named the ‘Rush Energy Break’. This would serve as an
advertising outlet for Rush Energy Drink and the Twellium brand to access a
customer segment of passionate young sportsmen who need to get energized. With a
higher level of brand loyalty observed among these individuals, sponsoring this event
would potentially result in Twellium’s brand acceptance within the Esports industry
and higher sales for Rush Energy Drink in the long run.

Sustainability

Social
It encourages more youth to engage in gaming, and might also provide job
opportunities for the unemployed.

Economic
From this project we will be able to raise money from stakeholders and provide
money for the participants as well, it will be a win win on both sides.
