for an Inter – Level Competition

“Organizing a Sports Tournament”


One of the major issue in conducting a sports tournament or competition is how to score the
games and declare the winners.

1. The Single Elimination/knockout


- The single elimination type may be used when times is limited. It is the easiest to
organize and the quickest way to declare a winner.

2. The Double Elimination/knockout


- This type of tournament requires an individual or team to have two defeats before being
eliminated. A loser in all rounds continues to play a losers’ tournament. A loser in the champion
bracket drops down and plays in the winner in the loser’s bracket.

3. Round robin tournament


- So the round robin is a type of tournament which is generally used for team
competition. Each players or teams for the particular sports. The player or team with the most
number of wins and the least number of losses shall be declared the winner.
- In short it is the fairest type of tournament but it requires a lot of time.
