Method Statement of Tiling Works


1.0 Scope of work
Tiling works to be applied at on all units and common areas.

2.0 Responsibility
Site Supervisor

3.0 Safety Equipment & Measures


3.1 Dust mask should be used when required
3.2 Eye protection should be worn when required. In case of contact with
eye, wash thoroughly with plenty of water and seek medical advice if
necessary
3.3 Gloves should be worn when handling sharp edges

4.0 Materials
White horse tile, cement, sand and adhesive cement

5.0 Handling and storage of materials


Handling: tiles to be unloaded using a mobile crane or other appropriate lifting
materials.
Storage: Tiles to be stored in dry place free form excessive moisture on a raised
platform.

6.0 Plant, Machinery, Equipment, and Tools


Rubber mallet, spirit level, L-square, measuring tape, tile cutter and trowel

7.0 Preparation Works


7.1 Attain approval material, samples and method statement.
7.2 Lay out and put marking on the concrete floor slab the correct tile layout
and make sure it is aligned with the markings on masonry wall for wall
tiles
7.3 Provide temporary but rigid lumber for references to check plumbed and
alignment
7.4 Do not begin tiling work until all concealed conduits, pipes, electrical
cables, electrical boxes that penetrate the tiling have been fixed securely
in position and making good is completed
7.5 Before fixing check that any colour and shade variations are acceptable
7.6 Discard any tiles that are chipped or cracked
7.7 Cut tiles neatly and accurately

8.0 Work Methodology


Workmanship
8.1 Identify and mark the finish floor/wall level based in the drawings
8.2 Tiles are placed according to the designated work areas.
8.3 Base of the tiles is a mixture of 1 part cement and 3 parts sand. Adhesive
cement is use when necessary.
8.4 Before placing the tiles, the areas must be thoroughly clean from any
excess debris and unwanted materials.
8.5 Cement base is neatly placed onto the tiling area.

8.6 Tile is carefully place on a neatly screed cement base. Tap tiles firmly
with a rubber mallet to neatly level the tiles. Use spirit level to identify
unevenness of tiles.
8.7 All joint in floor tile should be truly aligned and even. Grouts shall work
well into joints so that it is all evenly filled.

9.0 Quality Assurance


9.1 Supervisory staff will check on works from time to time.
9.2 Selected masons will be engaged for tiling work.
9.3 Vertical and horizontal alignment of floors and walls will be checked
while tiling work
