FIRST SEMESTER 2024-2025
7E’s Lesson
Plan Model

2
What is 7E’s Lesson Plan?

• The 7E’s model is an extended version of the 5E’s

instructional model designed for inquiry-based and
student-centered learning.
• Originally, the 5E’s model included Engage, Explore,
Explain, Elaborate, and Evaluate. The 7E’s model adds two
new stages: Elicit (at the beginning) and Extend (at the
end).
• This model enhances student engagement, fosters deep
understanding, and encourages lifelong learning.
3
Why is 7E’s Lesson Plan is important?

• The 7E’s model supports active learning, critical thinking,

and real-world application of knowledge.
• Helps teachers create a more structured, yet flexible
lesson that caters to varied learning styles.
• Allows students to explore, construct, and apply
knowledge meaningfully, which increases retention and
understanding.

5
ELICIT PHASE
• Objective: Uncover students’ prior
knowledge and preconceptions about the
topic.
• Why It Matters: Understanding students’
initial ideas helps teachers address
misconceptions and build on what students
already know.
• Outcome: Helps the teacher tailor instruction
to student needs and sets a foundation for
new learning. 6
ENGAGE PHASE
• Objective: Capture students’ attention and
spark their interest in the topic.
• Why It Matters: An engaging introduction
connects the lesson to students’ prior
experiences and motivates them to learn
more.
• Outcome: Students are mentally prepared
and excited to dive into the lesson, which
improves their focus and curiosity.
7
EXPLORE PHASE
• Objective: Allow students to actively investigate and
discover concepts through hands-on activities.
• Why It Matters: Learning by exploration encourages
critical thinking and deeper understanding.
• Outcome: Students gain an initial understanding of
the topic through experience, making learning more
meaningful and memorable.

8
EXPLAIN PHASE
• Objective: Clarify concepts and ideas that
students encountered during the Explore
phase.
• Why It Matters: Provides a space for both
teacher and students to articulate, share, and
understand key concepts.
• Outcome: Students solidify their
understanding as they relate their exploration
experiences to formalized concepts.
9
ELABORATE PHASE
• Objective: Extend understanding by applying
concepts in new, broader contexts.
• Why It Matters: Reinforces learning by
challenging students to use knowledge
creatively and flexibly.
• Outcome: Students demonstrate mastery by
applying their knowledge in various
situations, which deepens understanding and
encourages problem-solving.
10
EVALUATE PHASE
• Objective: Assess students’ understanding
and learning outcomes.
• Why It Matters: Evaluation provides feedback
to both students and teachers, guiding future
instruction and learning strategies.
• Outcome: Helps gauge student progress,
inform instructional adjustments, and ensure
that learning objectives have been met.

11
EXTEND PHASE
• Objective: Encourage students to continue
applying and connecting their learning
outside the classroom.
• Why It Matters: Extending knowledge beyond
the lesson promotes retention, relevance, and
lifelong learning.
• Outcome: Fosters a mindset where students
continue to learn, explore, and apply concepts
in their lives beyond the classroom.
12
Benefits of Using the 7E’s Model
• Enhances Engagement: By addressing diverse learning
stages, the model keeps students engaged and involved.
• Supports Deeper Learning: Students build a solid
conceptual foundation through the scaffolded approach
of the 7E’s.
• Promotes Lifelong Learning: Students learn skills for
independent inquiry and real-world application.
• Facilitates Differentiated Instruction: Each stage offers
multiple activity options, allowing teachers to meet
various learning styles and needs.
13
Comparison with the 5E’s Model

• 5E’s Model Overview: Includes Engage, Explore, Explain,

Elaborate, and Evaluate.
• Difference with 7E’s Model: 7E’s adds Elicit (beginning)
and Extend (end) stages for a more comprehensive
approach.
• Elicit Stage: Allows teachers to understand prior
knowledge and misconceptions before introducing new
concepts.
• Extend Stage: Encourages application beyond the lesson,
supporting lifelong learning and relevance.
