Trinity College London's New Certificate and Coat of Arms
Trinity College London's New Certificate and Coat of Arms
The Certificate
Our candidates are at the heart of Trinity and our work, and we are proud to
present a newly designed certificate on the highest quality paper which properly
reflects the significance of their achievements. The new certificate includes the
Coat of Arms but has a number of other enhancements and distinctive features.
These are illustrated in the example certificates overleaf.
Until now, Trinity College London has continued to use the Shield established by
Trinity College of Music. However, as an organisation that has seen significant
growth and diversification over recent years, the decision was made to commission
a Coat of Arms specifically for Trinity College London. The new Coat of Arms is
designed to reflect the long history and heritage of our work while being more
inclusive of the full range of Trinity’s qualification portfolio. This important element
complements the Trinity College London brand and reflects our status as a leading
international examinations board.
In 2007 Trinity submitted a formal application for a Coat of Arms to the College
of Arms, a branch of the Royal household. The application was granted and we
had pleasure in working with the Lancaster Herald, who led the discussions
leading to the design. Information on the work of the College of Arms can be
found at www.college-of-arms.gov.uk

Pegasus
The winged horse, Pegasus, is a symbol
of knowledge and inspiration — important
components in the achievement Trinity
honours in all fields. Pegasus was also the
source of the Muses, who represent all
forms of artistic endeavour.
Dramatic masks
The masks of comedy and tragedy are
well-known symbols of drama, which
is a key component of Trinity’s range
of examinations. However, drama is
not merely about entertainment as it
encompasses the whole range of oral and
musical communication in the same way
that Trinity does around the world today.
