Where to Shop:

● Dollar Tree: Great for marbles, paper plates, tape, and rulers

● Walmart or Target: Backup option for any missing items

Materials Needed:

● Paper plates

● Masking or painter's tape

● Rulers

● Marbles (or any small round objects)

● Paper towel holders or toilet paper tubes

● Scissors

● Stopwatch (or phone timer apps)

Shortcut Tip:
If no marble kit is available, use cardboard, folders, or shoebox lids to make ramps!

Learning Objectives
● Understand how gravity and ramp angles affect motion.

● Apply the scientific method to make and test predictions.

● Record, compare, and reflect on results through guided discussion.

Mini-Lecture:
"The Invisible Force That Never Sleeps!"
(10 minutes with interaction and visuals)

What IS Gravity?
"Gravity is an invisible force that pulls things down to the ground.
It’s what keeps us from floating into space like astronauts!"

💡 Use this comparison:

● "Ever seen a balloon float up? That’s because it’s lighter than the air.
But most things fall down—and that’s gravity doing its job."

🌟 Hook:

(Drop a marble on the table or floor)

“Why did it fall?”
Let students guess.

🌍 What Is Gravity?

"Gravity is an invisible force that pulls everything toward the Earth. It’s what keeps us from
floating into space!"

👨‍🔬 A Brief History:

"About 400 years ago, a scientist named Isaac Newton sat under a tree. An apple fell on his
head (ouch!). He wondered, 'Why did it fall down and not sideways?' That question led him to
discover the force we call gravity."

How Gravity Affects How Things Fall

Gravity pulls everything down toward the Earth, no matter how big or small the object is. But
sometimes, objects fall at different speeds. Why? It’s not because gravity is weaker or
stronger—gravity pulls on everything the same way! What changes the speed is air resistance
and the shape or surface of the object.

A crumpled paper ball and a flat piece of paper weigh the same, but the flat one falls slower
because it catches more air. Today, we’re going to drop different objects from the same height
and time them to see how shape, weight, and air resistance make a difference!

🧪 How We’re Using Gravity Today:

"Today, you’re going to build ramps and roll marbles down them. There are no motors—just
gravity pulling the marble down.
You’ll test different ramp angles and learn how gravity works by observing the motion!"

💬 Engagement Questions:

● “What would happen if we didn’t have gravity?”

● “What falls faster: a feather or a hammer?”

● “What do you think will happen with a steeper ramp?”

🧾 Wrap-Up:

"Even though gravity is invisible, we can see it in action when things fall.
Today, we’ll use it to experiment, measure, and build our understanding of physics!"
