PERSONAL GROWTH AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

LESSON 1: Philosophy of Teaching


This lesson will help you understand that teachers' practices are guided by
beliefs and values. These beliefs and values form part of the teacher's philosophy of
teaching. This lesson will focus on the different philosophies of teaching. The objectives
of this lesson are the following:

1. identify the different philosophies of teaching; and

2. determine the teaching philosophy that can address the needs of the 21st
century learners.

Observation__________________________________________________
Observe a teacher for two weeks. Please write your observations on the following:

1. Classroom Layout

 Upon my observation in my new cooperating teacher in Grade 2 the classroom


layout is simple layout and neat room also not much design from the inside but
the environment from the teacher is very good. The classroom layout from overall
I observed is good and clean.

2. Teaching Methodology

 Upon my observation in Grade 2 in teacher leah’s classroom the teaching


methodology that she provides is to amazed and the collaboration with the pupils
that she handles is very well amazed since teacher leah is good handling at the
pupils especially when the pupils of hers have special needs also and she handle
it quite well.

3. Assessment

 Upon my observation in teacher leah’s assessment is very well clean to be


noticed that teacher leah knows fully about how she managed the assessment
well.

4. Materials

 Upon my observation the materials that teacher leah presented is very well
colorful and clean also.

Other comments and observation:

 In my observation in from the classroom everything is handle very well from the
start of the class until the end of the discussion.

 One of the reasons is that teacher leah is so good at handling pupils in her class
especially when the pupils have special need also, she approaches them friendly
if the discussion she applied to that day is understandable from them and teacher
leah also a very well manner profession teacher.

3. How does the teacher's philosophy of teaching impact the learners?

 It delivers the impact of that learning will important for both students and
teachers, and that everyone is committed to supporting it to the learners.

1. I realize that:

 Having the classroom layout, the designs, assessments, and the materials that
needed to be shown or presented must be creative, neat, clean, elegant and
colorful so that the pupils will much more appreciated the classroom environment
since many of the pupils will appreciate much colors and creative designs.

2. I believe that:

 Classroom layout, Assessments, Teaching methodology and materials is much


more time to be prepared with it and the struggle of being a teacher is much
more having a big responsible than I known of it.

3. I feel that:

 Soon if its my time to become one of the teachers I will do my very best to be
creative and elegant so the pupils will appreciate the classroom environment and
not only the pupils but my hard work-ship from designing my classroom also.

4. When it is my time to become a teacher, I will:

 Design and make a plan from my classroom layout and effective learning style
that will suit for the pupils to be participating with it.
LESSON 2: Dignity of Teaching as a Profession
This lesson will guide you in determining the qualities of a teacher, which
promote and contribute to the dignity of the teaching profession. More specifically, the
objectives of this lessons are the following:

1. discover personal traits of a good teacher; and

2. discuss professional traits that teachers should possess.

Observe a class. List down the personal and professional qualities of the cooperating
teacher, which, you think, contribute to the development of the students.

1. Personal qualities

 The personal qualities of Teacher leah is understandable, kind, charming to the


people that she surrounds with especially with the other cooperating teacher as
well.

2. Professional qualities

 The Professional qualities of Teacher leah is also very goods and friendly
environment especially when teacher leah is teaching to the pupils and to that
special need of the pupils she handles with it.

1. What do you think are the best qualities of the teacher that you have observed?
Why?

 One of I noticed that the best qualities of teacher leah is that she collaborates
with the pupils and assist them with their problem of understanding the subject
that she teaches also and she is good in the way that most of the pupils she
handles very and appreciated by the pupils also.

2. How can the teacher continue to grow personally and professionally?

 For me, by seeking or knowing what is lacking from the teaching style of a
teacher especially when some of your pupils will start to asleep as your topics of
discussion will proceed.

1. I realize that:

 Having a good personality will have a great impact to the pupils and not also by
the pupils but by other peoples that you surround with it as they spectate you
what or how you handle the pupils very well.

2. I believe that:

 Having a good personality doesn’t mean also that you will do anything for your
pupils to be like or appreciate by your classroom environment since most of the
pupils have different kinds of special needs or wants and for us future teacher,
we seek what is lacking in the classroom environment and starts to develop and
progress with the new ideas of what the pupils will like.

3. I feel that:

 Good personalities or professionalism is described of what you really are so


being a future teacher we must develop our new ways of attitudes or
personalities from what is good or bad so we can avoid from the issues.

4. When it is my time to become a teacher, I will:

 Discover my ways and seek development of how is really being a teacher means
and how to become a good teacher with the pupils.
LESSON 3: Professional Links with Colleagues
In order to grow professionally, teachers need to connect with other educators.
This lesson help you understand the value of collaborating with other teachers. More
specifically, this lesson will guide you to:

1. discover the importance of collaborating with other teachers; and

2. discuss ways on how to link with other educators.

Observation__________________________________________________
A. Ask the cooperating teacher if you can volunteer as shadow teacher for a day.
List down ways on how the teacher collaborates with other teachers.

 Not observed.

B. Interview the cooperating teacher. Ask the following questions:

1. In what ways do you collaborate with your colleagues?

 For example, having an activity in our school and meeting that’s the time we
share our ideas and how we’re going to achieve in the activity to be successful
not only the ideas but work as one and cooperation.

2. Why do you need to collaborate with your colleagues?

 Since we are all teachers that’s how professionalism work to collaborate with
other colleagues and from the sayings “No man is an Island” and have fun each
other and focus the achievements and goals.

3. What do you think are the advantages of collaborating with colleagues? What are
the disadvantages?

 The first thing is advantages in collaborating is having a peaceful work in


environment and fun experience collaborating with colleagues and the activity
makes faster while collaborating. The disadvantages in none since we work as
one in our school.

 Yes, because it linking with you colleagues makes you energize with them
especially when you have something to ask with them about the upcoming
something that you really wanted to ask.

 A great impact because in collaborating with other teacher might lessen or fasten
your works in that day or in events.

3. If you were the teacher, how will you collaborate with your colleagues?

 For me, by approaching them by asking them a helping hand with this thing or
that thing and assisting the things that need to be work fast.

 Collaborating with your other colleagues is a big impact from you or your other
colleagues also since you work fast as you work by yourself. The more the
merrier to be finish of the activities or events that need to be done with.

 Collaborating with your colleagues is also an adventure and experiences also its
like going out for a journey and more memories that you will have and not just by
memories but more experience that you need to adapt with it.

3. I feel that:

 Collaborating with your colleagues or cooperating teachers will have a great


impact to the environment or to the society that you’ve work with it and from that
collaborating will having a wonderful day to start and end with your day in the
work since you work as one you enjoy as one also.

4. When it is my time to become a teacher, I will:

 Collaborate with my colleagues and be friendly at all times even though not all
colleagues will like the attitudes but still try and try until they can adjust that they
are living in the environment with being a friendly area.
LESSON 4: Professional Reflection and Learning to Improve
Practice
In order to grow professionally, teachers need to reflect on their own practice.
This lesson guides you in discovering the value of reflecting on own practices to
improve teaching. More specifically, this lesson will help you to:

1. discover how reflecting on one own's practice can improve teaching; and

2. determine various ways to engage in reflective practice.

Interview_____________________________________________________
A. Interview the cooperating teacher. Ask the following questions:

1. How do you evaluate your practices in the classroom?

 The time we have an evaluation in last April having the demonstration of the
performance for the whole year. Some teachers are watching and observing the
performances of other teacher not also the observer but the interns and
principals also. If I were to evaluate practices in my classroom I would evaluate
through and assessment coz in that way we’re going to know if the pupils are still
learning.

2. Do you think it is necessary to evaluate one's own practices? Why? Why not?

 Yes, if we aren’t going to evaluate owns practices we don’t know if the pupils are
still learning from the class coz in evaluating not only, we will know but what are
the ways that needs to be improved or develop one’s own practices.

3. If given a choice, what do you think is the best way that you can do to help
improve your own practices?

 Up until now I am still studying in my ways and not only for me but all of my other
colleagues also. There’s other saying’s also “That a Good teacher is a prepared
teacher” means if you’re going to enter your classroom you must be ready about
the things you will consider in your discussions on that day.

 Reflective practice in teaching is the process by which teachers continually


reflect upon their teaching methods in the classroom, in order to improve their
practices and ensure that they’re doing everything they can for their learners.

2. What can you say about the way the teacher reflects on her own practices?

 For me, great teachers adapt as a result of this reflection, to continually improve
their performance. Reflective teachers are more likely to develop reflective
learners.

3. How do you think reflective practice can be further reinforced in schools?

 Developing a culture of reflective practice improves schools by creating a strong


foundation for continuously improving teaching and learning.

1. I realize that:

 Improving owns practices is a big deal also of our attitudes towards


pupils/students not just by the pupils but your other cooperating teachers also will
start to reflect their own practices in schools.

2. I believe that:

 Reflective practices will help you to become a more efficient teacher since you
evaluate yourself what is need to be improve and to be change.

3. I feel that:

 Evaluating your practices is classroom will also affect and improving your
teaching styles since you evaluate your practices after your classroom
discussions and it helps me to narrow down, focus to exactly the areas of the
curriculum that children need a little more support with, helping me to avoid
spending too much time on content that they’re really confident about.

4. When it is my time to become a teacher, I will:

 Evaluate and reflect my owns practices so in order to be improved and develop


my teaching styles in classroom discussions. It also encourages to consider the
teaching methods that are best suited to children’s styles of learning, ensuring
that will maximizing the time together by using methods that they’re most likely to
respond to and benefit from.
LESSONS 5: Professional Development Goals
In order to improve the teaching-learning process, teachers need to identify goals
that will help them grow professionally. This lesson will guide you to:

1. determine the goals that teachers should pursue to grow professionally;


and

2. use the Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers as a guide to


develop goals for professional development.

A. Interview the cooperating teacher. Ask the following questions:

1. As a teacher, in what areas do you think you should improve on?

 For me, the areas I should or will improve on is my Patience on handling the
pupils since the grade level I handle is Grade 2. Anyways the pupil’s attitude is
their nature so I teacher need to improve and focus my patience even longer.

2. What do you do to address the areas that you need to improve on or develop?

 For me, is to relate to my pupil’s addressing since they’re still kids so if ever they
start to get bored in the class like wanting the fun and enjoyment in the class
that’s the time you need the lessons more fun and exciting. For example, giving
them an activity that is more fun and catchier to them so they will not be bored.

1. Do you think the teacher was able to address her learning goals? Why? Why
not?

 Yes, because teacher leah focuses on her pupils needs on how she will handle
them for a fun or enjoyment activities since she handles a Grade 2 pupils. That’s
why teacher leah able to address her learning goals towards her lovely pupils.

2. Based on the Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers, what particular


domain or strand should the teacher address as her learning goal? Explain your
answer.

 For me, it belongs to the domain 7 and one of the reasons is that having a dignity
of teaching as a profession is in her blood of teaching and her focus to be
become one of the professional teachers in that school that’s is why her learning
goal is belongs to the domain 7.

1. I realize that:

 Having the profession of being a teacher is need more development or improved


your learning based – style in teaching so you can grow time by time and
improved you teaching goals in classroom management.

2. I believe that:

 Professional development of a teacher is a must in order to grow and adapt the


changes of the personalities of other teachers that need to be address and being
called to be one of the profession teachers in school.

3. I feel that:

 That based professional development in teachers’ standards is one of the big


changes of teachers view since it can guide the teachers on how to improve and
develop their ways and attitude towards the pupils or students.

4. When it is my time to become a teacher, I will:

 Improve time by time and develop my new ways of becoming a profession


teacher so that the new teacher will start to improve their daily basis as becoming
one of the profession teachers in the school and start improving their learning-
based style teaching in classroom.
