Guided Practices

A. Answer the following questions:

1. List down ways on how you manage a class.
-I begin with a prayer, check the attendance, check the surroundings
-Whenever the students become noisy, I usually increase the loudness of my voice
or through tapping the desk.
-I select student responses randomly but usually I make sure that students at the
back
-Get to know my students through quick and random questions
-Take time to extend my patience with rational thinking
-Set professional boundaries yet approachable
-Follow the scheduled deadlines although extension is allowed sometimes
-Observe the ambiance of the classroom or observe the certain behavior of the
students and try to seek the cause of unusual behaviors.

2. What classroom management model do you adhere to? Why?

-Authoritative strategy of classroom management is still the type I believe that is the
effective. All other classroom management strategies can be applicable but with the
recent generation, instilling discipline or control while still being student-centered
should be most applied. This type of classroom management will teach the students
that a teacher can be a good friend but when it comes to discussion, active listening
and respect must be established.

B. Interview a teacher. Ask the following questions:

1. Is classroom management important? Why? Why not?
-Yes, because without specific classroom management, the class will be
unorganized and students will mostly be complacent in not respecting professional
boundaries. It is a top priority to establish classroom management so that we will be
guided with principles and appropriate rules that would encourage harmonious
atmosphere inside and outside the classroom.

2. How does classroom management affect students?

-Students will know the boundaries between a teacher and a student. Through
classroom management students can be expressive in class, present their opinion
and behave well according to appropriate guidelines of rules given by the teacher.
Students will be involved in active discussions while being polite in responding, well-
mannered and appropriate language are observed. Thus, creating an inspiring
environment and improving the academic performance of students.
3. How does classroom management affect teachers?
-This will greatly help the teachers because it will serve as a guide for teachers on
how to handle a class. Dealing with different types of students with varied learning
needs can be extremely challenging because as much as we want to practice our
ideals and practice what we have studied, there will be times that we will be
adjusting our ways depending on particular situations and instances that would really
test our flexibility. Classroom management have always been our mission because
we are the implementer of the curriculum.

C. Interview a teacher. Summarize his/her response and write it on the space

provided after each question.
1. How do you manage your class?
-The learners have changed a lot these days compared to the way of handling the
class before where most of the time, the teacher uses authoritarian type of
classroom management. As for me, whenever I start the class, I remind everyone
about my rules during class discussion. I remind them that interactive learning is
what I want. I really establish my expectations but not to the point that they’ll be
intimidated. If the class gets noisy, I usually stay silent for a while and look at them in
the eyes and if it is still ineffective, that’s the time I’ll tap the desk to get their
attention. Also, if there’s one misbehaving student, I go near them while still
discussing in order not to spend most of the time calling out everyone who is
misbehaving.

2. What is the greatest challenge that you have encountered so far in terms of
classroom management?
-Being a teacher in the new generation takes a lot of effort, patience, determination
and endurance because we are called to teach so we must exert efforts in handling
the class, giving the right words, patience on the things that are beyond our control
yet we still practice accountability. The effects of the pandemic made our journey
more challenging because we are bound to go back to square one including the
shaping of values.

3. What do you think are the essential considerations in managing the class?
-Students’ welfare first before anything else. This has been our drive since then.
What we are doing is for their own good as always. Other considerations include the
availability of instructional materials if it would suffice the individual needs of
students. Moreover, another important thing is the various learning needs as well as
areas where students excel best using the multi-faceted form of intelligence.

D. Observe and examine all the strategies implemented by your cooperating

teacher to ensure that the class is managed well. Write your observations and its
implications below.

of the behavior of students especially that they all came from distance learning for
almost 2 years.

towards the teachers.

Reflection:

Write your reflection by completing the following statements.

I realized that there are still many things to learn by experience in handling a
classroom because every encounter may surprise you. Classroom management is
very essential in order to maintain harmony inside the classroom. Furthermore,
through appropriate classroom management, the learners will have a clear view of
what is expected of them. Also, the flow of discussion during lectures and activities
will be much organized.

I believed it is essential to establish classroom rules at the very beginning in order

to lay down all the guidelines as to how the lessons will be conducted, the right
manners and conduct during lectures, the consequences of irresponsibility from
tasks. It is also essential to identify the appropriate classroom management
strategies in accordance with the students’ needs, variations in learning capacity,
environment at home, behavioral patterns and other considerations.

From now on, I am determined to commit in reading the guidelines set by the
Department of Education and in order to align my beliefs and principles as to how
would I handle a class that would create a positive impact. I fully understand that my
ideals might not fit in the current generation and circumstances that is why I am
prepared to adjust my ways and strategies so I can assess myself well as well as I
can impact best results to my learners in the future.
