Course Description: This is the first experiential course, which will immerse a
future teacher in an actual classroom situation and learning
environment where direct observation of teaching learning
episodes that focuses on the application of education
theories learned in content and pedagogy courses will be
made. Observations on learner’s behavior, motivation,
teacher’s strategies of teaching, classroom management,
assessment in learning among others shall be given
emphasis. A portfolio shall be required in the course.

1. Are the teacher's background and qualifications aligned with the subject's he or she is
assigned to teach?

Ma’am Feji, my cooperating teacher took up Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in

English and graduated year 2017. Her course was aligned with the subject she handled which

is English subject and she is a grade 8 teacher and a grade 8 adviser.

2. Does he or she use the K to 12 curriculum guide in preparing a lesson plan?

As with making their lesson plan our CT follows the guide that was implemented by the

school which is to follow the k-12 curriculum guide. Moreover, as what I have observe, she

doesn’t create lesson plan for her everyday classes instead she just downloads modules from

the internet and prepares DLL make it as her guide in teaching. DLL serves as her guide for

her everyday goal. DLL helps her a lot because it is more convenient to make and she can

estimate well and divide all the lessons so in case she can’t finish a lesson in a day, she can

still continue it the next day because she already set the allotted time.

3. Does he or she consider the learner's prior knowledge in designing a lesson plan?

Yes, as what she has said it is important to know your students’ level of understanding

and their capacity in absorbing information. It is important to consider the students, for her to

really hit and finish her lesson on the allotted time.

4. Does he or she use varied teaching strategies to deliver the subject matter?

In my observation yes, she incorporated strategies in delivering her subject matter.

Usually she engages her students to read or to write the important parts of the lesson so the

students will remember what she teaches them. She uses direct instruction, indirect instruction

and interactive instruction.


5. Does he or she conduct research in planning for his or her lessons?

Yes, she usually does research and get supplementary information from the internet.

She usually incorporates video for her lesson because learners prefer that they have

something to watch. She doesn’t just rely alone on modules but she also do research

especially for the activities.

Other Comments:

I observed that using pure English language while teaching is less effective because some
students can’t understand and follow what the teacher is implying. This is also because due to the
pandemic, the students have lesser vocabulary and weak reading skills.

A. Based on what you have observed in class, explain the importance of the different kinds of

knowledge.

1. Content knowledge

It is really important that you mastered your lesson before teaching your students for

you to have a smooth flow while discussing. Learners are diverse that is why we need to use

all the things we know like present theories, concepts and facts for them to understand the

lesson. In addition, it is important that you let them independently build and create their own

concept and information in that way they could understand and remember the lesson easily.

2. Pedagogical knowledge

It is not just important that you mastered your lesson but you should also consider the

appropriate activities that you should use. Activities that could develop their higher order

thinking skills and enhances the 21st century skills. Use teaching strategies that could be best

effective to all students and that could help you meet your learning objectives effectively. You

should incorporate well your prior knowledge as well as the students during the teaching-

learning process. In that way you can stimulate the mind of the students and understand their

own concepts.

3. Curricular knowledge

Since we already adopted the new curriculum, our ways and tragedies in teaching

should also level to the new curriculum. It is necessary that we have knowledge on different

instructional materials that we incorporate in our teaching in order for us to adjust the

necessary. Moreover, in designing the lesson plan you should also be aware what are needed

to adopt and incorporate that are in lined with the curriculum.

B. What do you think were the strategies used by the teacher to enrich his or her mastery of the

subject matter?

Mostly, she studies her lesson ahead of time and prepares the DLL so that she knows

what lessons to focus on that day and to the whole week. She also does some research from
the internet to have more ideas especially examples and activities. She mentioned she watch

videos on YouTube for that specific lesson.

C. What do you think were the strategies used by the teacher to enrich his or her pedagogical

knowledge?

She never relies on the module alone. She applies theories and past experiences to

support to the lesson especially in giving examples. As what I have observed, she provides

examples which are relatable to the students. When the students get the idea, that’s the time

that she let them talk and also share their ideas. In addition, trainings and seminars really help

her a lot because that is where she learns strategies and approaches for effective teaching.

D. What do you think were the strategies used by the teacher to augment his or her curricular

knowledge?

As per Ma’am Feji, she is not into the traditional method or way in teaching the students

today because as what she also experienced, its difficult to manage the students today and

their way of learning becomes different because of pandemic. Her strategy is that she

integrated ICT in the classroom like she uses laptop, PowerPoint presentations, audiovisual

materials to grab the students’ attention.

As a teacher, its very difficult to handle different sections because everyone id different.

The way you handle or the attitude that you show in that other section will not work the rest of

the other section that you handle. It is your duty as a teacher to make sure that your students

really learned something from you even though that you caught them not listening. To make
your students respect you, you should really act as a teacher and that you are superior than

them.

2. I believe that

As a future educator, I should build a good rapport to my students to have a harmonious

classroom. Good connection between student and teacher is necessary so that they will really

listen to you and treat you as a teacher. Even though students are different when it comes to

learning, they would still learn depending on how you approach them. The strategies that you

will use and by the activities that you provide will greatly contributes to the successful teaching.

3. I feel that

To be honest there are still lots of things that I need to learn and do to make myself an

effective teacher someday. I feel like it is still not enough that I know well my goals. When it

comes to teaching, it felt nice that I know I helped a student learn and understand something.

Being a teacher is a very exhausting job. There are lots of things you need to prepare, and not

just that, you yourself, should be also.

4. When I become a teacher, I will

Always remember what I have learned during the time of my observation and make it as

the basis the way I will handle students soon. I will use all the things that I have learned

especially the strategies and approaches that I think would work on that specific learners. I will

also use the student-centered approach because as what I have observed, the students

nowadays really need to be taught well and develop their own reasoning. It is not just important

to teach them the lessons but we should also teach them good moral values.

1. Does the school promote research culture among the teachers? How?

Yes, the school does promote research culture to the teachers but only to the selected

teachers. According to my CT, when there is a seminar for the division only those teachers who

were selected will need to have or participate and conduct a research. Most selected teachers

are Science teachers.

2. Do the teachers undertake research activities to enhance their pedagogical content knowledge?

What are these activities?

They don’t have specific activities but they do only have seminars and trainings to

enhance their pedagogical knowledge. In those trainings, that’s where they learn and develop

something that they may use during teaching process.

3. Are the teachers aware of the standards, principles, and pedagogical approaches behind the K-

12 curriculum?

Yes. Of course, they have seminars for that especially what they need to know about

the K-12 Curriculum. Since it is DepEd, seminars are always conducted for the teachers. Thus,

its vey beneficial for the teachers and to the school.

4. Do the teachers integrate research findings, empirical evidence, and theories to support validity

of content to be taught? How?

The teachers would refer to the K-12 curriculum of course to see if that specific content

still needs to be learned by the students or not. In K-12 curriculum there are specific areas that

they want the students to have or develop. If they see that content helpful to the students then

they would entail it.


5. Do the teachers use varied teaching approaches based on K-12 curriculum principles? How?

Yes, some of that is the interactive instruction and independent study which specifically

target the students’ participation, and their own learning. In K-12 curriculum, it emphasizes that

it should be learner-centered rather than teacher-centered so various approaches are observed

that help the students develop their 21st century skills.

1. How do research-based instructional strategies enrich the pedagogical content knowledge of

teachers?

Basically, research-based strategies help the teacher to use what is best for all of the

learners. It illuminates effectiveness of methods so the teacher has something to use during

the teaching-learning process. It also helps the teacher to get the attention of the students

effectively. In addition, the students will actively participate due to her varied teaching

strategies.

2. How do research-based instructional strategies affect the students' learning?

Research-based instructional strategies really hit the K-12 principles. The purpose of

research-based instructional strategies to the student is that it motivates and help them build

their own understanding. It allows them to be responsible of their own learning in a way that

they need to be resourceful to get ideas. It helps them explore interesting questions and

process it while at the same time build their vocabulary and reading skills.

3. What do teachers need to do to improve their research skills?

There is no other way than to research and research. Find a way that makes them

comfortable to learn new things. If they are not that computer literate then ask someone that

could help them explore things. Most importantly, join seminars that could be beneficial for

them.

Teachers should also be resourceful and should always be ready. I realized that

teachers should also know how to adjust and adopt to new strategies and incorporate

everything what you learned so you can also relate to your students and vice-versa. It is very

challenging to become a teacher because learning never stops. If you observe that your

teaching strategies doesn’t work anymore just like before then you need to change the way you

teach. Even with making the lesson plan, its not just about making one but you must have to

consider many things to make it worthy.

With the help of seminars and trainings teachers can effectively deal with different and

diverse students. We do have our own unique way of teaching and that also varies to what kind

of students we have. But as teachers we should forget to follow or critique our own way of

teaching if it is acceptable to the current curriculum of to the K-12 curriculum principles. We

can enhance and develop our skills by attending trainings and seminars. It would greatly

contribute to our development and skills.

3. I feel that

We teachers are more responsible for the future of our students that is why we should

be responsible for our performance also as teachers. If one of the students fails then I fail also

as a teacher because again as a teacher it is our responsibility that we make sure that our

students learned something from us. Moreover, it is more rewarding to see that all your

students can move up together. Teaching is like going to school again, you adjust with

everyone, go to school and study the lessons.

Make sure if I really do see myself loving my job because if I don’t it will just ruin

everyone, not just me but also my students and colleagues. I will learn to be patient and

accepts every opportunity that would help me develop and enhance my skills as a teacher. I

will make sure that I can relate to my students and same with them. Making sure that everyone

will learn from me is one of my priorities as a teacher and also, I want them to see that they

need me for their wonderful future.
