This 12-day lesson plan focuses on teaching algebraic expressions and identities, starting with the basics of constants and variables and progressing to operations like addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of expressions. Each day includes specific objectives, class activities, and homework assignments to reinforce learning. The final day is dedicated to reviewing key concepts and assessing students' understanding through a quiz.

12-Day Lesson Plan: Algebraic
Expressions and Identities
Day 1: Introduction to Algebraic Expressions **Objective:** Understand constants, variables, and algebraic expressions. **Class Activities:** Real-life examples of expressions. Identify parts of expressions. **Homework:** 1. Define: variable, constant, term. 2. Write 5 algebraic expressions from daily life (e.g., 5x, 3x + 2). 3. Identify constants and variables in: 4x + 7 − 2y
Day 2: Terms, Coefficients, and Exponents
**Objective:** Identify terms, coefficients, variables, and exponents. **Class Activities:** Breakdown of expressions like 6x² + 3xy − 5. **Homework:** 1. In 6x² + 3xy − 5, identify: a) Total number of terms b) Coefficient of x² c) Constant term 2. Write 3 algebraic expressions and label coefficient, variable, exponent.
Day 3: Types of Algebraic Expressions
**Objective:** Classify monomial, binomial, trinomial, polynomial. **Class Activities:** Sort expressions into groups. **Homework:** 1. Classify: 4x, x² + y, 3a + 2b − 4, 7 2. Write 2 examples of each type.
Day 4: Degree of a Polynomial
**Objective:** Learn how to find the degree of a polynomial. **Class Activities:** Practice on 5–6 expressions. **Homework:** 1. Find the degree of: a) 4x² + 3x b) x³ + x² + x + 1 c) 7 2. Write a polynomial of degree 4 with 3 terms. Day 5: Identity – (a + b)² **Objective:** Understand and apply the identity (a + b)² = a² + 2ab + b² **Class Activities:** Area model and numeric examples. **Homework:** 1. Expand using identity: a) (x + 3)² b) (a + 4)² 2. Verify the identity by expanding both sides.
Day 6: Identity – (a − b)²
**Objective:** Apply identity (a − b)² = a² − 2ab + b² **Class Activities:** Compare with Day 5 identity. **Homework:** 1. Expand using identity: a) (x − 5)² b) (m − 2)² 2. Verify each using multiplication.
Day 7: Identity – (a + b)(a − b)
**Objective:** Apply identity (a + b)(a − b) = a² − b² **Class Activities:** Use with numbers and variables. **Homework:** 1. Simplify using identity: a) (x + 6)(x − 6) b) (3a + 2)(3a − 2) 2. Explain why it is called “difference of squares.”
**Objective:** Apply algebra in real-life context. **Class Activities:** Solve the matchstick puzzle. Case study: garden with 5 rectangular beds. **Homework:** 1. Draw the square garden divided into 5 rectangular beds. 2. Write expressions for: a) Perimeter of the entire garden (side = x) b) Perimeter of one rectangular flower bed
Day 12: Recap and Assessment
**Objective:** Review and assess learning. **Class Activities:** Revision game and short quiz. **Homework:** 1. Revise all 3 identities: - (a + b)² = a² + 2ab + b² - (a − b)² = a² − 2ab + b² - (a + b)(a − b) = a² − b² 2. Write 2 word problems that use algebraic expressions.
